We were lucky to catch up with Nina Glazer recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Nina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
At first, following my passions felt like a risk. I have a great and successful career and I wasn’t unhappy but I felt a calling to do more and to align with what enlivens my spirit. I wanted to experience more, feel more, and paint more.
Putting myself out there in the world as artist, seemed like a dream I had kept at bay for a long time. However, like many people 2020 pushed me to examine my life and how I spent my time. That year, I spent more time painting and the more time I spent creating, the more I loved it. I began sharing my art on my social media and that led to sales and commissions. And then to creating my website and applying for local art festivals and shows. Now, I sell at local art festivals and to collectors all over the country.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a self taught artist who started painting professionally in 2020 specializing in Abstract Expressionism. I work with a variety of mediums, mostly acrylic. I also love to work with fluid paint, alcohol ink, and resin. I love exploring the balance between control and surrender when working with fluid mediums. I take my inspiration from the world around me and never shy away from using color in my work. I also enjoy taking everyday objections and making them more beautiful. I’ve used my art to help me find my way through healing.
Years ago, I was in a car accident that left me working through debilitating chronic pain after years of treatment and back surgeries. I started drawing and painting as a way to distract myself from my pain. Eventually, it became a passion of mine and helped bring me back to life.
In addition to art, I also stumbled upon an energy healing modality called the Emotion Code which also helped me immensely. It made such an impact in my life, I became a certified Emotion Code practioner.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Through my art, I’ve unlearned creating for product. For me, art is not about creating something to sell but to tell a story, move energy, or to enjoy the process of creation. I’ve learned when I am creating for an outcome it takes me out of the flow and beauty of process. I wish I had learned this years ago!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is being able to express myself with color and brushstrokes. And then to see someone’s face light up because my work resonates with them is the most rewarding feeling. Connecting with others through the beauty of art is truly a gift.
