We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful MeCia Rembert. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with MeCia below.
MeCia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear stories from your time in school/training/etc.
My training actually starts from high school. I attended Crockett Technical High School where I was a part of the sports medicine and physical therapy vocational program for 3 years. The best part about this was having the opportunity to put what I was learning into practice by working as the student athletic trainer for the football and basketball teams.
I then went on Michigan State University, majoring in Athletic Training. During that process, I had AT clinical rotations that served the men’s soccer, women’s basketball and the football team. All very different learning experiences. I actually switch my major to something broader but still in the same field, as the AT program was super competitive. My internship was definitely a highlight for me. I worked at East English Village Preparatory Academy under Rod Oden, who was the head football coach at the time. During that time, I trained the upcoming student trainers and most importantly, created an entire training program for the new potential student athletic trainers to learn from and follow. After graduating, I took a position at Concentra as the Physical Therapy tech and was there for 3 years. After massage school and my weight loss journey with 1% Better, entrepreneurship began for me.

MeCia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello, my name is MeCia Rembert. I’m from Detroit, Michigan. I am the Massage Therapist and Stretch & Recovery Specialist for 1% Better Nation. I graduated from Michigan State University in 2016 and have an extensive background in the health and wellness field. I’ve done Athletic Training work for sports teams, worked as a Physical Therapy tech, and is now focusing only business in massage, recovery and stretching. My goal is to promote a sense of health and wellness through stress relief, pain reduction, injury prevention, & relaxation by offering therapeutic massages and deep stretching sessions. I am trying to create a healthier community and lifestyle by focusing on holistic health through natural touch and body movement.
As a member of 1% Better, my weight-loss journey was born. 1% Better is a holistic health and wellness company that focuses on helping you get 1% better everyday, whether its mentally, physically, emotionally, etc. With the help of my trainer, Keyon Clintion (founder of 1% Better) was able to lose over 110lbs, all naturally. This journey led me to my love of fitness. I was then able to find a way to connect my love for fitness and healthy living to healing with my hands. I think that’s what sets me apart. My weight loss journey led me here. Overall, I’m most proud of me and how far I’ve come and how I’ve able to push through hard times and struggles. I’m still persevering, still growing and still pushing through.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Entrepreneurship comes with many ups and downs. One of my biggest struggles was keeping my composure, controlling my emotions and maintaining a level head when things weren’t going according to the plans that I had. This was the time when things were really rocky. Money was low, clients weren’t booking and I was at my lowest mentally. I knew I couldn’t stay in that space because I have a son to provide for. I had to change things and so I did. Grind mode kicked in. I started networking, posting more to get clients and bookings and making sure that I was taking care of myself first. But it was in this moment that I learned the value of being stronger than my thoughts and emotions and what real faith looks like. Mustard seed faith. God is for sure a way-maker.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
I’ve come to realize that one of the most important components in succeeding in your field is connecting and working with others who may know more than you and are willing to teach. Another thing that I found to be very helpful for success is to find new ways and ideas to educate your followers/clients. This helps to create a genuine connection with them. What I’ve learned from that is the more you are able to teach and connect with your community, the more likely people are to book with you. Overall, having confidence in yourself and being able to step outside you comfort zone.
