Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tyrone Williamson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Tyrone, thanks for joining us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
It’s started off as an Idea back in March of 2020, Pandemic time around the world, lock downs & stay at home orders. With nothing really to do me & my partner came up with the idea of getting equipment to start our own clothing brand. Starting out with a vinyl cutter & small heat press, only doing clothing for our children and a few close friends.
After obtaining the equipment a few weeks later, it’s was all about practice, learning how to properly use the equipment, which I have to credit YouTube for that. Countless hours of watching content creators (Big Brandoh on YT ) give tips & tricks on how to properly utilize our newly acquired equipment
Next it was finding vendors & manufactures which Los Angeles CA is the hub for in our region, many road trips to southern Cali over the next year building relationships with blank apparel companies, you find out all merchandise is not created equally meaning find what your target audience likes & buys already then go with said brand.
Examples Some may like heavyweight tees, other might love soft cotton.
Jan Of 2021 Is when I received the opportunity to place products inside Arden Fair Mall in Sacramento as one of 40 black owned businesses collectively coming together for a new retail store “The Pop Up Shop At Arden” with grand opening 1st day of Black History Month
This sudden change of direction has made the company much larger in scale being seen by thousands of shoppers daily and bringing our brand awareness up 1000% , actually having a radio station Host ask on air about our T-Shirts available inside the mall , later that year we open a “Pop Up Shop San Francisco “ with the same concept
Fast forward to 2022 We are now available in 7 Retail locations in Sacramento with more expansions coming.
It went from idea to execution, with faith, dedication & willingness to learn
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I used my Music Production knowledge & entrepreneurship to build my clothing brand Cap City Kreations LLC.
It’s about providing a need or want in this business, I created a City proud T-shirt which took of immediately inside Arden Fair Mall I believe that’s what separates my brand from others we created merchandise that wins over your heart
What makes me proud the most is knowing products I created are enjoyed by hard working customers & they absolutely love and support what we offer.
Customer service and satisfaction is top priority so every item produced by us is made with love and care & I personally hand make every item to ensure quality control
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
My business partner Collette Scott is the driving force of the company, she works the behind the scenes issues of our brand while I work the main line
We’ve known each other for over 18 years & always been great friends making plans of business but actually executed in 2020 now we are 2 years in and moving forward everyday!
Definitely wouldn’t be close to where we are without each other
How did you build your audience on social media?
Social media, I’ve been promoting and selling music online since MySpace days, the key to building an audience is consistency
You have to look at it like TV, if there’s nothing to watch they will just change the channel to find something that interests them, look at your social media pages as your own personal TV station. Always have something ready to entertain the audience
Remember there is no such thing as over promotion, so stick with it and watch the results increase significantly.
