We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bianca Milan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bianca below.
Bianca, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you walk us through some of the key steps that allowed you move beyond an idea and actually launch?
I’ve always had a passion for makeup and skincare and I wanted to share my love for beauty with others. I wanted to take my passion for beauty and translate it in a way that is accessible to all. I found social media as the best medium. I am a creative person and I use social media as one of the ways to express myself.
For background, I have BA in Political Science, a minor in journalism, and a Juris Doctor. I’ve held various editor positions for California Baptist University’s award-winning newspaper The Banner and Pursuit Magazine. I also have experience in public relations and marketing since I was 17 years old. So I have worked in the traditional form of media but I recognized that social media was the future and that I would have to adapt to this new paradigm.
At the time, in the early 2010s, social media was novel and so was the rise of beauty influencers. Back in 2014, I watched beauty influencers share their talents and skills and I saw that this would be a feasible professional opportunity for me as well. In the beginning, I would take flat lay photos of beauty products. Inspired from magazines, I would create mini sets and shoot pictures of my makeup products. About a year or two later, I would create content of makeup looks on myself that were inspired by models or celebrities. I also loved fashion DIYs, so my content evolved into making video content of designer inspired DIYs. Within the last few years, my content evolved into beauty tutorials and reviews as well as lifestyle content.
As for execution of these ideas, I just did it, I grabbed my iPhone and just started shooting. I would take my photos of makeup and post them on Instagram. I did not wait for anyone or for an opportunity to just come into my lap. I decided that if I want to pursue this, then I would have to put in the hard work to make my dream a reality. I used my experience from photography and filming home videos. I love the craft of film making and when I was a kid, I would take the family cam corder and I would make stop motion films, comedy shorts, and film family events. I did not focus on perfection but just dove in and learned along the way. I also studied other peoples work on their craft. I take the time to learn from people because if you are in the smartest one in the room, then you are in the wrong room. I absorbed everything like a sponge of learning how to use editing software, lighting, filming, and so forth.
After learning, adapting, evolving, and gaining experience of creating content, I evolved my work into a brand, which is Bianca Milan Beauty as well as my show The Eclectic Beauty Hunter with my co-host Mia Mocha, where we collaborate with brands to promote products via tutorials or reviews. I went from posting beauty products that I’ve purchased to actually working with the brands like Mally Beauty, Pixi Beauty, Glamnetic, Sally Beauty, Liquid IV, Pharmagel, and more. It has been quite a journey from just posting beauty content to being a professional content creator.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Bianca Milan and I am a co-host, producer, and editor of “The Eclectic Beauty Hunter.” The Eclectic Beauty Hunter is a fun, upbeat show hosted by Mia Mocha and Bianca Milan. We are on the hunt to find the latest and greatest in beauty, skincare, fashion, lifestyle, travel, and entertainment. Our content consists of beauty reviews, tutorials, fashion week coverage, and more.
I’m also a beauty, fashion, and lifestyle content creator. My content consists of product demonstrations, tutorials, and reviews. I have collaborated with many brands such as Mally Beauty, Glamnetic, Pixi Beauty, Sally Beauty, Kosas, Merit, Tower 28 Beauty, Liquid IV, and more. This year, one of my dreams came true when I modeled for my favorite beauty brand Mally Beauty. I was asked to be in a commercial for their national campaign “Life is Better with Makeup.”
My entry into the entertainment industry and social media began with my mother, Mia Mocha, who is a radio personality. She took me under her wing to essentially learn everything about the business from behind the scenes to in front of the camera. The entertainment industry is unique but tough, it requires tenacity, determination, resilience, and a strong sense of self. I have always loved the behind the scenes workings of it and so I learned everything from her, she has always been my mentor. I went everywhere with her from appearances, hosting events, to radio shows.
My social media experience really blossomed when I would assist her in producing photo/video content of her and celebrity guests. These experiences really helped me when I transitioned into digital beauty content because I learned about the importance of branding and connecting with the audience. I would not be where I am in my career today if it wasn’t for my mom, she is truly inspiring.
In addition to my work and education, I am a humanitarian. I love volunteering in my community and have done so for over 17 years. I have worked with various organizations such as Children’s Miracle Network, American Cancer Society, Operation Christmas Child, CHOC Walk, and more. I currently work with the organizations: The Trevor Project and No Drugs America.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part about being an artist and a creative is having the privilege and opportunity to express myself. I love the freedom of being able to create what I want and sharing it with others. I love to film, take photos, edit and add my style and perspective into it. I like the challenge of taking an idea and executing it into reality. Regardless of whether there is an audience or not, I do this because it is my passion and I truly enjoy it. While there are some glamorous aspects to my work like attending red carpet events and getting PR packages/gifts, I work very hard at my craft and I take my work seriously, it was by no means handed to me. I am truly grateful for the opportunities and blessed to be able to do what I do, I never take anything for granted.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
About two years ago, I was seriously considering walking away from content creating because there was a lot going with the pandemic as well as the grief and loss within my own family. For instance, I lost my father to colon cancer and on the date of the anniversary of my father’s death, my aunt passed away. Professionally, despite my best efforts, my work was not where I wanted it to be. For background, I manage my own brand and content, I do everything myself from creative to execution (i.e. filming, editing, graphics, scripts, styling, makeup, contact brands, etc.). I went through a difficult time and I was reevaluating what my next steps would be because I always believe in having a plan A, B, and C.
Then last year, I was offered to do a commercial for my favorite beauty brand Mally Beauty. They’ve featured my content a few times on their social networks. The team offered me a part in their national commercial “Life is Better with Makeup” campaign. To work with them was truly a dream come true. The campaign was published earlier this year which helped me get more exposure. Around the same time last year, Crystal, who I previously worked with for a collaboration, started her own influencer agency firm and offered me to be on her talent roster. I accepted and she became my manager. She did an amazing job securing brand deals for me and showing me the ropes of how to be a professional influencer. After working with her for almost a year, my brand became more established and credible.
These moments were a learning experience for me, I learned to stay faithful and tough it out when things get difficult. Sometimes you may be in a place where your career isn’t moving as fast as you would like it to be but that is by no means a reflection on your skills or content. When it is meant to be, it will happen.
