We recently connected with Terasha Beavers-Donaldson and have shared our conversation below.
Terasha , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
Honestly, I have a few defining moments but this one is one that has a very transformative effect on why I am where I am today. I was working a full time job as a visual at the time, a wife a mother and running my lash studio with 5 employees. To just take that big leap of faith and leave my job during covid, to where I felt like I had the security I needed in life and I was comfortable where I was. To also have my husband as one of my biggest supporters and encouraging me. To start fresh and go full time for myself was very defining. Just doing the most unexpected things that others said it would be impossible to do, but remaining humble while prospering .
Terasha , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
So I started my company (The Lash Out Lounge LLC) in 2018, but I have been a lash artist for a little over six years. I was currently already in the beauty industry but wanted to do something a little different. I knew whatever it was, I wanted it to be beauty and to make women feel more confident about themselves. I’m a big believer in seeking God for answers, so I literally prayed and fasted about which direction I should take. Also what was best for me and what would be more profitable. I later did a refresher course on lash extensions and realized that this was the direction I wanted to take . I sat back and got my business plan together, I wrote down some of the goals that I would love to achieve. With putting my plan into action, putting God first & foremost and disciplining myself financially, I stepped out on faith and my husband and I found a building. When I say it was a challenge but we accomplished one major goal . I later hired 5 lash artist in which I certified to be apart of my team. I’m 2020 I eventually went full time for myself. The services we offered at the time were , lash extensions, individual lashes, henna/ permanent brows, makeup and we sold multiple products that catered to female and male beauty needs. I later accomplished another goal within a year and my husband and I got another building and hired more employees and added a hairstylist & a retail handbag, accessories consultant and a Lash School. I knew with having this particular one stop shop I didn’t want it to be like any other. I created a plan to where it was a mentoring program for inspiring beauty business owners. All of my young ladies in the lounge are certified lash artist or licensed cosmetologist, they all have created business plans, business licenses and building clientele. So when they’re ready to branch out they have all of their resources. So I wanted to create a growing mentorship for the people that are apart of my team. I love what I do, to wake up everyday and do what you have a passion for and that’s to make women feel more confident and beautiful, it’s an amazing feeling. It’s so funny that I normally consider myself as a, doctor, lawyer, counselor & prayer partner etc….. it’s like being a lash artist we’re with our clients for hours and we become all of these things and we have to be great listeners lol. I’m most definitely a people person and my genuine , humble and caring personality is what makes me different from most. It’s just not about making money, lashing nor teaching for me. It’s about seeing that people are choosing what makes them happy, accomplishing goals and being comfortable with themselves. I can guarantee if you walk into The Lounge with your head hanging down, you will most definitely walk out with a boost of energy and confidence. Also knowing that you are beautiful. My main goal is to make sure when you come into The Lounge you have a great customer service experience. We care about all of our customers and will make sure you feel that as well because the vibe is amazing . If you are in the Huntsville Al area, feel free to look up The Lash Out Lounge LLC & Terasha’s School Of Lashing on any social media platforms. Where we also have multiple business based out of there. I’m grateful for all of my accomplishments and thankful for all of my supporters . I’m just ready to accomplish more goals and seeing what’s next .
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
My most effective strategy for growing my clientele was social media. You have to be very consistent with marketing your brand even if you get zero shares or likes. I also pass out a lot of flyers & business cards etc… getting involved in the community can also get your name out there and help build your clientele. I also periodically do promotions for my business, emails etc… but first & foremost do right by people and that’s having great customer service, because word of mouth is everything. You also have to remember that your clients are your billboards and you have to allow your work to speak volume.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
I would most definitely choose the same profession if I could go back. When you have a passion for what you’re doing and it’s bringing peace, joy and happiness you wouldn’t look back.
