Risk is a topic that comes up a lot in our conversations with entrepreneurs and creatives, but a related topic is investments. Investments come in many forms – investing your time, money, heart and soul, etc. So, with that broad definition of investment in mind, we asked rising stars in the community to tell us the stories of the best or worst investments they’ve made.

The best financial decision I have ever made was purchasing commercial real estate. I was in my early 20s, working in the service industry and trying to balance an education degree with a child at home. I had no idea what I truly wanted to do, but I knew I wanted to work in the arts and public sector. After graduating, I was offered to rehabilitate an abandoned building with a friend, so naturally, I decided to dive head first. One of the best investments in my business was a three-day conference in Atlanta that helped me to finally envision a new level at which I wanted to grow my company. This particular training stood out because the prior year I’d reached out to the coordinator of the training asking if there were any less expensive training since my business was fairly new at the time, and I couldn’t afford to invest at that level. The best investment we have made thus far would have to be all the books about the music industry, friendships and the clothing line. The worst investment we have made would be into other people’s agenda’s that pull energy from our campaign.
