We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jeff McIntosh a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeff, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Out of all the art that I have created, doing liquid light shows for live bands in Cincinnati has been some of the most rewarding. It is such an engaging flow state where I get the opportunity to add to the musicians’ energy and music.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
For much of my adult life I have been driven to create art. I started painting as far back as 2010, and along the way I have always enjoyed learning a new craft. I became interested in creating shirts with my artwork on them which led me to an associates degree in printmaking, and graphic design at Cincinnati State. The variety of artforms that I have practiced in the past include: painting, sculpting, marbling, illustration/ drawing, graphic design, apparel design, jewelry design, screen printing, and liquid light shows. I currently work as a bench jeweler, and in my free time I am always working towards creating and selling new art of mine. Currently I sell art prints, original paintings, laser engraved works, and sculpted wooden jewelry, I also have a Patreon which I am working towards growing so that I can support myself full time as an artist.
I draw a great deal of inspiration from the animal kingdom, the textures and patterns found in nature, as well as spontaneous abstract expression of geometric forms. I am also greatly influenced by the pattern work and design of ancient cultures the world over. I aim to create temple art that glorifies the natural world.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to develop as a unique artist and to be successful in creating beautiful works of art that bring people peace and happiness. With success as an artist I would aim to enrich and promote other artists and musicians as well.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
While having a hard time landing a job as a graphic designer (and still doing food delivery) I decided to start a bench jewelers apprenticeship in 2021. It has been some of the most rewarding work that I have found so far, and has really taught me how much I love to work with my hands.
