We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jarvis Gray. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jarvis below.
Jarvis, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Would you say you are more focused on growing revenue or cutting costs? We’d love to hear how you think about these two critical drivers.
In today’s economy, both of these elements are extremely important for a small business to be successful. One of the biggest lessons I teach to my clients is that revenues will feed your ego, and profits will feed your family. That being the case, cutting costs and increasing your prices are the two quickest ways for any small business to immediately increase profit margins.
The case here is that 100% of all expenses taken out of a business immediately moved into the net profit category. For almost all my clients these are the two strategies that we look to implement as quickly as possible again with the goal of growing the profit margins of their company.
From there I work with clients to focus on additional revenue generation strategies that we implement within their business that support predictable business growth, without spending any extra money on marketing or advertising. Examples of this include implementing a market-dominating position for their business. Introducing bundles, upsell, downsell, and cross-selling opportunities; and one of my personal favorites is strategic partnerships, aka joint ventures.
So again with today’s inflation rates currently sitting around 8%, I would strongly encourage every small business owner to be focused on both cutting costs while also growing revenues. I welcome a conversation with any small business owner should they need any additional insights on how to balance the focus in both areas.

Jarvis, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi, my name is Jarvis Gray. I am the founder and CEO of The Quality Coaching Company. I help goal-centered entrepreneurs & small business owners who find themselves struggling, in trouble, or just not growing as fast as they would like to immediately increase their revenue and profits by showing them how to generate more leads, attract more customers, and make more money… without spending more on marketing or advertising. I launched my business back in 2017 with an initial focus centered on healthcare organizations. I expanded my focus to the larger small business market in 2019 when I realized the gap in seeing small business struggle early in the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic. By background, I am an industrial engineer, or business engineer, with over 20 years of experience in project management, operational improvement, business analytics, and strategic planning. Today there are 32+ million small businesses in the United States that account for 40%+ of the economy, and an incredibly high rate of failure. I personally understand how essential it is for these businesses to succeed. Business failures lead to destruction, addiction, depression, anxiety, suicides, and, unfortunately, far more. As a Business Growth Strategist, the impact that I can bring to my business clients has the sincere potential to save marriages, families, and kids from self-destruction and ultimately save lives!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the biggest lessons that I’ve had to learn as a small business owner is that everything that I’ve ever learned about generating leads and marketing my business is wrong. Everything that I’ve ever heard, everything that I’ve ever tried, everything that I had ever done up until roughly 3 years ago to promote my business was all wrong. This was created in alignment with the fact that we currently live in a culture where there is an over-saturation of marketing, and so many of the marketing messages that we are hit with daily, approximately 3,000 unique messages per day, are formatted in a way that is entirely incorrect and often misses the mark with connecting with their ideal customers.
If we look at the history of marketing, we will understand that our marketing messages should be created in a way that allows our ideal customers to immediately understand that there is a problem that they have but do not want and that there is also a solution or a result that they would like but do not currently have. As business owners, if we begin doing a better job of addressing those two primal and emotional needs of our target audiences then we can better position ourselves as the go-to business, product, or service to directly meet their needs.
Once I understood this and applied it to my business, the positive ROI was amazing, and the results came quickly. This now serves as a cornerstone strategic best practice that I share with my clients as a way to accelerate their overall marketing performance.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
All my clients know that I lead with a little bit of “S.A.S.”. This simply stands for, “Shut up and Serve”. I recently had a client give me the nickname of being “Resultant”. This comes from the combined approach that I use in my work to serve as a consultant, a coach, and a trainer in the areas of business strategy and execution. While our number one goal is centered on generating results and momentum for their business, the number one role that I serve with all of my clients is that I hold them accountable for taking action and implementing strategies that will lead to their long-term success.
My goal is straightforward, to help serious business owners gain more customers, sell more of their products and/or services, and increase their overall revenue and profits quickly and without the overwhelm that is common throughout the business coaching industry. This is how I have built my reputation since launching my business back in 2017 and this is how I will continue to build my reputation long into the future.
