We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Neeyaz Zolfaghari. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Neeyaz below.
Alright, Neeyaz thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Is there a heartwarming story from your career that you look back on?
Thankfully, so many to choose from! One of my favorites is when I was working with a patient, 75 year old male, who came to me with type 2 diabetes and wanted to lose weight. His diet at the time was not conducive to his goals, so we started there. After working with me for 3 months, he had routine blood work done with his Doctor and his A1C, cholesterol and triglyceride levels all drastically decreased. I called him for our follow up session and he told me: “I have to say, when I first came to work with you, I didn’t think that you could help me. I really had given up any idea that anything would be able to help me feel like my old self again. And now, I have never felt more energetic, my pants fit looser and more importantly, I’m able to go on walks with my wife again.” That last comment absolutely moved me to tears.
Neeyaz, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Of course! My name is Neeyaz Zolfaghari, I am a Holistic Nutritionist, Hormone Health Specialist and Health Coach. I have always admired and been fascinated by the healing powers of food. I am first generation Iranian American, so I grew up surrounded by the notion that food is medicine and anything can be cured using ingredients in the kitchen. This love of nutrition was embedded in me from such an early age, but it wasn’t until I had to utilize these notions myself, that the curiosity began to strike.
I was diagnosed with 2 autoimmune diseases when I was 18 years old and throughout the years to follow, of the pillars that served to be the most helpful and transformative for my health, was tending to nutrition and going back to those practices embedded from my culture. It was then, seeing and feeling my own personal results, that I became passionate about learning more about nutrition and turning my passion into my life’s work.
I now work with clients, primarily women, who either have chronic illness or autoimmunity, hormonal issues or imbalances or are simply transitioning to new periods of their life and are seeking guidance on how to make the transition easier and more enjoyable.
I really value patient empowerment, so along with working with my clients and helping them to reach their wellness goals and intentions, I also do my best to educate them on what we are utilizing, why it’s important and how it will benefit them. I love teaching and putting the knowledge back into each person’s hands, so they can feel even more connected to their body even after working with me.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Having a business that is so public facing, can be very intimidating and jarring. In 2019, one of my autoimmune diseases began to flare and it was very noticable (as it shows on your eyes). Behind the scenes and behind my work, I was mentally in one of the worst places I have ever been. I was disgusted at the way I looked, cautious about filming myself or taking photographs, stayed home as much as I could to avoid being in public. On the outside however, I kept myself together and you would have never known how much I was hurting on the inside.
In 2020, I was approved to receive a life long treatment for the disease itself and I decided to turn my pain and angst into power. I began documenting my journey from the very first day and for everyday thereafter until the end of my treatment. My inbox was flooded with messages of hope, love, support and gratitude from those that were enduring the same disease and felt completely hopeless. I had no idea that me choosing to share my own experience was also providing hope for others. I’ve now shared my story with thousands and my intention in doing so is to remind others that, they’re not alone.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Referrals has been my number one source of growing new clientele. When one person has a great experience, they’ll likely tell someone close to them about it. I am an avid believer in the power of a ripple effect and it’s this ripple that’s helped support my business and grow my clientele.
