We recently connected with Melissa Stuberg and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Melissa, thanks for joining us today. We’re complete cheeseballs and so we love asking folks to share the most heartwarming moment from their career – do you have a touching moment you can share with us?
There was a man that needed help and he needed it now; his wife was frantic. He had been in the hospital for 9 days and was wanting to go home but could not due to limited resources and no medical support. This is when we met – the three of us! Everyone seemed afraid to help him due to multiple roadblocks, the severity of his condition, and lack of knowledge. I accepted this challenge with their support and got to work. We were able to obtain all of his supplies on a donation basis (thank you to that entity) which was a huge financial relief. I provided care for about a year in their home. At the beginning this was daily and sometimes as needed, even staying the night on a few occasions. We all felt this bond, like we were supposed to be in each other’s lives. For me it was not an inconvenience but an honor! At this point it has been well over 10 years this occurred, we still stay in contact. They feel as if I saved his life…..I feel as if it was my calling to be there. We all agree that this bond will never dissipate, we all think of each other often.

Melissa, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I always knew I wanted to help others in some capacity, partially in medicine. In high school I did some career testing which pointed in the direction of a mathematical career. Right after high school I got my feet wet in the accounting field (not for me). Shortly after that I began working for a home care agency and local hospital when I decided to open my own in-home care company. I wanted to make a difference by offering a more personalized experience. 23 years later we still are living by the original mission statement which is “to provide personalized, high-quality care on an as-needed or continual basis in the comfort of an individual’s home.”
We provide all-inclusive care for an individual who signs up for services. This includes but is not limited to nursing, caregiving, homemaking, companionship, transportation, lawn care, snow removal, heavy duty chores, and home remodifications.
We are known within the community for taking on challenges like extensive wound care, 24-hour care, rural cases, transportation, and emergency staffing. We are also known to provide an extra special touch or better known as going above and beyond.
We are most proud of our integrity. It’s that simple!
We have created a business that we believe in and choose for our own family members.
We strive to care without judgement to the entire community with dignity and love.

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
Heck yeah! It has been a journey to say the least but “worth it”. With all the ups and downs there have been lessons learned. Growing professionally and personally have growing pains but once again, “worth it”. My definition of “worth it” is that smile or that thank you after a long day. The satisfaction of making sure individuals stay in their home is “worth it”. Just knowing we may provide that support that the individual may not otherwise have is “worth it”. These things that make it “worth it” help me go to work every day, work long hours, and provide employment to others with a like mind. To look at the big picture…I wouldn’t change anything!!!

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Our reputation was built by continuing to do the right thing. Of course, there have been hiccups along the way but those have been met head on. We continue to provide services that reflect us as an individual. This is an extended family where we treat each other with respect. This respect flows into the community, helping to maintain our reputation. We have built a reputation that we provide a professional but family like service. Our “family” comes first.
