We recently connected with Itzel Munoz and have shared our conversation below.
Itzel, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you take us back in time to the first dollar you earned as a creative – how did it happen? What’s the story?
I remember one day i told my self i was going to step out of my comfort zone and try something that i felt was calling my name, something that i been wanting to try out but just needed a little push. I went out to the store and bought a few items i needed to wire wrap a crystal, i made a few and i was so surprised on how perfect it turned out & of course i posted it on my socials to show off what i had created. I had one of my facebook friends reach out and tell me she wanted to purchase a pendant made by me, i was very shocked, surprised & even humbled to know that SOMEBODY out there liked my work/appreciated my work. It really was a great amazing feeling because it never once crossed my mind that i could make money off of something i enjoyed doing, and here i am now 2 years later with my own little small business.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello everybody my name is Itzel Munoz, i am 23 years old and i make handmade crystal jewelry. My love for what i do started back in 2020, i was on my healing journey/spiritual journey and the love i had for crystals made me want to tap into this creative mind i had. I used to always tell my self, “i want to wear some crystals as necklace’s” but just didn’t know how or where to purchase one. I get a lot of anxiety or anxiousness when it comes to doing new things in life so the thought of even making one myself was kind of out of my comfort zone, but i pushed my self to do it and its the best decision i could’ve made. I did my research on the tools i needed/ the items and i began to wire wrap my first two crystals. After seeing the endless amounts of jewelry pieces i could create out of crystals/ crystal beads i started posting on my social medias and thats where it got alot of attention. The amount of people who wanted to place custom orders to have something of mine that i created was a feeling i can’t describe. Not even a couple of months later i decided this is something permanent i wanted to do, Turn a hobby into a full time job, a job that i loved doing.
I think what sets me apart from others is i like to build friendly relationships with my customers. I don’t just look at this as a opportunity for money, i actually want to get to know what you like, what your favorite color is, what you’re looking for in a custom jewelry piece, if it’s any questions you have about anything i offer and lastly for me to deliver 100% what you were searching for make you not regret purchasing! I honestly think what i’m most proud of is my self. I’m very proud that 2 years ago i put my self in a position i never once seen my self, to do something that brought me joy and making a business out of it. I never thought i would be where i was today if i would’ve never gave my self that push, that little push into a creative world where nothing is impossible.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal for my business is to never stop creating. Never lose that creative spark i have to keep creating pieces that i can fall inlove with & then show off to my followers/ supporters. I know sometimes as creators we seem to want to give up at times when things get rough, but i know that regardless i want to keep going and succeed in any goal i set for my self and keep creating things i absolutely love doing.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I think the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is bringing whatever the customer wants to life. Listening to what they’re looking for specifically, paying attention to the details and colors and patterns and to eventually coming out with the final product is the most rewarding part, Bringing a simple thought to life. Also something else i think is the most rewarding part is to see people wearing what i make. Like causally scrolling through my news feed/stories and see Men and Women and kids wearing things i create like HEY i made that, such a humbling crazy feeling.
