Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hans Isaacson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Hans thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
To date, one of the coolest projects I have been able to be a part of was creating content for the launch of Unsplash+. It pushed me creatively and opened up some really unique opportunities!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a photographer. I got into photography unintentionally and that transformed from there onward. I started out shooting landscape images on my cell phone. I created my Instagram page and started to post those images. I had not idea how to edit, or use any image editing software. Eventually I purchased a camera in the spring of 2021. Since that time, I have taken tens of thousands of images. One of the only ways to improve at photography is to continually take new images. Pushing myself outside of my comfort zone is what allowed me to develop skills in photography rapidly.
As of today, I am working full time as photographer. I have been able to take on some pretty incredible projects. It is amazing what one can accomplish if they put their mind and heart to something. Creating the business I have built today was something that was not even in the scope of my potential careers only three years ago. Go after what you are passionate about and never look back!
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
As I mentioned before, I started taking landscape images on iPhone. It was strictly a hobby back then. Over time, that hobby transformed into a career path for me. I have defiantly had some bumps in the road since that time. It is stressful to turn your passion into a business. There is the fear of getting burnt out & not enjoying that hobby anymore.
One thing that has helped me is separating work and fun. I will go a week or so without getting out and shooting for fun, or without an agenda. Strictly taking images for fun. If I did not keep that habit of taking a day out of a week to go and do that, I think burnout would set in much more often than it has for me.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I do not have a massive audience on social media, but I have used that as a tool to promote my business. I think that had I not created a social media account, I would not have been able to get some of the clients I have today. Social media is a powerful tool and when it is used for good, it can be insanely beneficial. Consistent posting and being engaged with your audience, while staying true to who you are is one of the best ways, in my opinion to grow your following.
