We caught up with the brilliant and insightful “Justincredible” (Justin Lang) a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, “Justincredible” thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on has been my 2nd album, ‘Art Imitating Life 2: Sending My Love’. It is a concept album that I have been writing off and on since about 2004. Every track has to deal with love in some way, shape, or form. Teenage/Puppy love, self-love, romantic love. breakup love, parental love, love for your haters, God’s love, my love for the less fortunate, my love for Latin culture, my love for my craft/line of work, my love for South Florida, my love for my future children, etc. I think this project will be a pillar in my field. I really had fun recording!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Justin Lang. I’m an Performing Artist, Author, and Educator. I go by the name Justincredible. Known for 3 words: “Real”, “Passion”, and “Flow”. I was born and raised in South Florida. My parents both low-key sang and played instruments growing up. So did I. My mom and dad introduced me to lots of R&B, Soul, Jazz, & Gospel music. As a kid listening to the radio, I got introduced to Hip-Hop & Rock music. That lit a HUGE spark for me!
In high school I began to write poetry as a way of expressing my teenage frustrations and relieving stress. Shortly after, I began recording music in a garage alongside a local group of Artists. Soon after that, I started to win rap battles, talent contests, and release EPs in South Florida.
I graduated from the University of Central. U-C-F…GO KNIGHTS!!! While attending UCF, I won multiple talent competitions & created radio intros for DJ Chino & Candi Marie. After graduation, for 8 years I was a Lead Creative Writer & Spoken Word Poet for A.M.P.E.D. (a poetry super-group based out of Central FL). Traveled around the US and opened for various Headliners.
Today, I am an Arts Ambassador & Creative Arts Teacher for Atlantic Center for the Arts. Currently, I am ranked 15th in the United States for Spoken Word Slam Poetry. With 12 years of teaching and counseling experience, I’m the author of ‘Real Life University’: The Most Relevant, Hardcore Life Lessons For Anyone Under 40′. My Clients include: New York Life, the University of Central Florida, Bethune-Cookman University, the City of New Smyrna Beach Florida, Orlando Economic Partnership, The Memoir Agency, JobsFirstNYC, Diverse Word, and more.

What sets me apart from others is my range of material, my love for people, and my community involvement. From love, motivation, my personal life, family, politics, religion, to life insurance…I believe no topic is off limits. As far as love for people, my parents have hearts of gold & raised me to respect all human beings. For 12 years now, I’ve been a Youth Mentor, Drug-Abuse Counselor, Anger Management Counselor, Conflict Resolution Specialist, GED Tutor, Homeless Population Servant, Career Coach, Intervention Specialist, etc. I’ve traveled & connected with so many people from so many different family backgrounds. I interact with people everyday & I always keep them in mind when I write or perform material.
I am currently most proud of 2 projects: 1-an exhibit I did in the Cici & Hyatt Brown Museum or Art in Daytona Beach, FL entitled, ‘QUESTION: Is Hip-Hop REALLY Art???’ and 2-my first book, entitled ‘Real Life University’: The Most Relevant, Hardcore Life Lessons For Anyone Under 40′.
What I want potential clients/followers/fans to know about me: I can capture the attention of any size audience within 60 seconds. I believe art should imitate life. I wake up every day trying to use my voice, talents, and lifestyle to help other people. I get a rewarding feeling inspiring listeners (and fellow Artists) to embrace who they truly are, love others, and do something great with their lives.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal/mission is to express every significant aspect of life I can creatively produce through writing, teaching, acting, and spoken word.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I think “non-creatives” would struggle to understand the fact that we carry 2 worlds in our brains daily, hourly, moment by moment. We are constantly thinking of rhymes, creative designs, storylines, concepts, and editing methods during our weekly Team Huddles and Board Meetings. We are envisioning project roll outs during Zoom Calls. We are critiquing and creating plots of our own during season finales or movie premiers. We are constantly in a process of consumption, absorption, creation, editing, and perfection. We take extra time on simple tasks because we want greatness attached to our work. We desire to do everything in excellence. We deep dive into the WHY because we want to fully understand the creative boundaries of the task at hand. We find it hard to focus or juggle multiple tasks because we prefer to passionately concentrate on mastering one thing at a time. We pay close attention to details. Our brains can’t help but see them and want to create something excellent with them. Forgive us! lol. It’s a daily, hourly fight to not get caught up with every single detail.
