We recently connected with Rikki D and have shared our conversation below.
Rikki, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
Ever since being a young girl visiting the salon with my mom, I always knew I wanted to be a hair stylist. I admired the way they were unique in their styles, how they made people smile, and their diverse personalities. Upon graduating high school, I dove into beauty school at The Paul Mitchell Academy in Long Island, NY. Right after I graduated, at 18 years of age, I attended Vidal Sassoon academy in Santa Monica to expand my education. I never lost focus, I always was motivated to bring better and had a goal. Which was to be a master stylist between NYC & Miami. I am so proud to have accomplished that. I even was blessed to operate my own salon at 21 years old based in Long Island. I made it a point to attend continuing education to perfect my craft.
Rikki, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a former salon owner, and master hair stylist & colorist from NYC trained with Vidal Sassoon and Paul Mitchell in NY & LA. I am based in Miami Beach, offering hair services such as hair styling, cuts, custom color, extensions and keratin smoothing treatments. I will get you to your hair goals along with a take home regimen to keep your salon quality hair at home.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of my career is making woman feel and look beautiful. I love building relationships with my clients and being a part their lives.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I aspire to own a salon and charter business here in Miami Beach. I would love to make the world look and feel as beautiful as they are. We are all beautiful in our own unique way, and a great hair style is just the icing on the cake.
