We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amber Barnes a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Amber, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
A defining moment in my professional career that changed my career trajectory came from a personal health experience. In 2019, I was always fatigued, had no appetite, and was losing weight and I was eventually diagnosed with thyroid nodules. My lab showed my thyroid levels were normal and no medication was needed, but I still felt all the symptoms ( fatigue, no appetite, weight loss) of my thyroid not functioning properly. My mom paid for me to see a naturopathic doctor that helped me to treat my symptoms through supplements and diet changes. This was life-changing for me, I actually felt better. I also realized I wanted to help others, specifically, Black Women and WOC, feel this way. I did some research and found that the best way for me to do this is to become a health coach.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Amber Barnes and I am a Holistic Health Coach and owner of Majestic Health Coaching, LLC where I help Black Women and WOC feel Majestic ~ Mind, Body, Spirit. My health journey along with the statistic showing how underserved Black Women and WOC are in the healthcare system is the drive of my business. Majestic Health Coaching is a place where holistic wellness ~ Mind, Body, Spirit ~ is the sole focus and is a safe space they know they can be heard and understood. I do this by providing 1:1 health coaching services where we determine your mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness goals and come up with an Individualized Wellness Plan (IWP) to help you meet those goals.
I also host a Podcast called The Wellness Tea Podcast where I have casual conversations with Black Women & WOC about health and wellness. The goal is to make these topics feel less taboo in our communities and let others know they are not alone in their struggles.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
There are four books that have significantly impacted my entrepreneurial thinking:
Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
Influencer: Building Your Personal Brand in the Age of Social Media by Brittany Hennessy
Professional Trouble Maker: The Fear Fighting Manual by Luvvie Ajayi Jones
The Prosperous Coach: Increase income and impact for you and your clients by Stevie Chandler & Rich Litvin
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think what helped me build a reputation within my market is sharing my personal health journey on my socials and documenting how I am managing them
