One of the most important ways to have a large impact in life is by focusing on communities that are ignored and overlooked. These communities are often the ones most in need of help, tools, and services but for a variety of reasons the largest players in most industries chose not to work on serving them. We’ve been so touched by the thousands of members of our community who are working on serving the underserved from tackling food deserts to building empowering solutions for the neurodiverse. Each week, you’ll find us highlighting folks serving underserved communities.

Many high schools in the Detroit Public Schools Community District and districts across Metro Detroit have eliminated their journalism programs or never offered one to begin with. Many students are interested in storytelling and writing about issues in their school or community that they care about, but they have no platform to do so. For students who love to write, they may not know that journalism — whether it be print, online, radio or television — is a viable career path until they are exposed to the industry. Read more>>

Im an artist and I have an online retail store where i sell my merch titled “Apply Pressure L.L.C” Every thanksgiving, we give back to the homeless in newark nj. The second year we teamed up with two other companies in northern nj. We were able to give the homeless full meals, chicken rice veggies and more. With goodie bags with essenstials in them. I think its important to give back and to never forget about the ones that people forget about. They are human too. Read more>>

We have a long way to go in terms of breaking Barries in many industries, not just mine which is craft beer, but so many industries that require a true dive down in terms really opening doors and removing barriers so that all can get in. I am lucky that I get to live in a country where I can fulfill my career wishes and desires, however we still live in a world where many women still do not get to pursue this. What does this mean to me? It means acknowledging my place at the table. Read more>>

Black in Baja was founded in the summer of 2018 when I relocated to Baja California, Mexico. I am well-traveled nationally and internationally and noticed that whenever I traveled, I was never hosted by Black people when I participated in activities/excursions/tours. I also noticed the lack of diversity in activities aimed at wellness in Black people. Many tours offered partying, drinking, and eating unhealthy foods. One other thing I noticed was that the few Black people on the excursions were not truly being their authentic self because others did not look like them; Read more>>
