We recently connected with Jake Jianettii and have shared our conversation below.
Jake, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Music has always been what I love, but I’d have to say my cousins were the major influence that got me into creating music. They would get together in a group, turn some beats on and start rapping. I was 12 when I started freestyling with them and I created my first song when I was 14 off my cousin’s laptop. I’m blessed I found what I love at a young age. Throughout my 17 year music career, I’ve consistently been told that I have so much passion it resonates in my music and when I perform. People can feel real, and they know when you’re not what you preach. I have always taken pride in creating music that connects with people and has real emotion in it; situations that people have been through or feelings that we have all experienced. Life is about adaptation and growing, but this doesn’t mean you can’t retain who you are; music holds the same principle.

Jake, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a rapper, singer, songwriter, influencer and beatboxer! My journey definitely started with music but as I grew a following, brands started reaching out to me for sponsorships as well; it’s shown me I’m a true creative at heart and that I don’t have to limit myself to just music!
I’m not good with favorites, but a definite proud moment was when I performed for 5000+ in Las Vegas. I was flown out, put up in the Bellagio and even my outfit was purchased for me; it really was the first time I felt what it’s like to be on tour. Some of my family got to come out and see me as well; it was so nice to show them I was still chasing my dream.
I believe what sets me apart from others, is my work ethic. I take pride in knowing that very few work like I do and as much as I do. I book my own shows, promote/run all of my social media, my website and my emails, find all of my sponsorships, create my own music, do all of the research to adapt with the industry and all while working a full-time job. This is the difference between me and others!
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Resources forsure! The road has not been smooth but I’m very grateful for it. It has helped teach me lessons I wouldn’t have received from books or videos; a few of the being: – Nothing worth attaining was ever attained overnight.
– If you love something/ someone, you’ll find time and you’ll find a way.
– Value those who support you with nothing to gain. I’ve struggled with doubts of being successful, finding the time to do everything, trusting the wrong people, and gaining more of a following. The list above describes what I took from those struggles; a mistake can become a lesson if something is learned.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Back in 2016, I graduated college and moved back towards Detroit. Several organizations in the area would host competitions and showcases so I would compete in almost every one of them as they popped up near the city. I would show up around 8PM, stay until 2AM and then go to work from 5AM-2PM and do it all over again. Time and time again I would come in 2nd & 3rd but never won the grand prize; usually it was to open for a popular musician. I kept trying, even though I was only getting roughly 3 hours of sleep a night, to pursue my dream. I always give everything I have into my performances, but this night was different. Everybody was of one mind that night: singing in sync and dancing; some even jumping on stage!
I won the grand prize and got to open up for Ty Dolla Sign at the Fillmore in Detroit! I gained a huge following from that performance and kept the ball rolling; Sponsorships and other opportunities came soon after and since then I’ve been sponsored by over 25 companies, toured around the country, and have made features with several named artists including Kxng Crooked (Crooked I) of Slaughterhouse!
As listed in the previous question, if you love something you’ll find a way, and nothing worth attaining was ever attained over night!
