We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Maggie Santillana . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Maggie below.
Maggie, appreciate you joining us today. Some of the most interesting parts of our journey emerge from areas where we believe something that most people in our industry do not – do you have something like that?
I strongly feel like the beauty industry is dominated by women so it can certainly be very catty. I definitely set myself apart by refusing to bash any beauty professionals, uplifting and supporting other artists in the same field as myself, referrals I’ll send you a client in a heartbeat if your work is great and you have the availability. Sometimes being such a high demand artist my schedule can be overwhelming and booked fairly quickly so I don’t mind sharing my clients! I try my hardest to continue being myself no matter the obstacles I face or the backlash I get from being myself. It’s never any shade sis we can all grow together 🫶🏼

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m self taught artist! I literally pushed myself to research and perfect my skill and talent. Having no guidance really made me practice and apply myself to get where I’m at. I’ve built and funded 2 successful businesses from nothing to something which makes you appreciate the struggle so much more! I’m now a nail artist and body waxer for 2 years strong. Growing the business going through the trial and error helps you become a better Business owner, I don’t think I could ever go back to working a 9-5 being able to control and create my own schedule definitely gives you the freedom we all crave to have!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Word of mouth, and social media! Creating content and keeping your followers engaged definitely helps grow followers and page! Make it fun get creative and don’t be afraid to post that video, it could be the one that goes viral!

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I first started my business I was so eager to have clients I didn’t know how to say “no” even if it meant working early morning hours from 5am to 3 am. I wanted the money and I couldn’t refuse a client. As my journey progressed I learned to establish balance, create a schedule and stick to my business hours without exceptions! Ultimately if your work is great and speaks for itself the clients will continue to come.
