Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Justine Milner-Keck. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Justine, thanks for joining us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
As a Black woman, I want my legacy to reflect peace, softness, luxury, freedom, kindness and wealth. I want my children to be proud and set up. I want my community and parts of the world to remember me as someone who made a difference, someone that came in a room and lit it up with authenticity and confidence. Someone who cared and never forgot where they came from. I want my legacy to be inspiring and unforgettable.

Justine, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Justine Milner-Keck, I’m from Virginia and I love to create. I’ve been this way since I was a child. We didn’t have technology or televisions in our bedrooms so creating and using my imagination came easy to me. I’ve lived in Virginia my whole life but I’m not set on staying. I’m currently getting my Masters in Multimedia Journalism from Virginia Commonwealth University and I give all credit to God for bringing me this far. Even though I proudly refer to myself as an Entrepreneur and Creative now, this wasn’t always the case. I originally went to school for Pharmacology and just knew I’d have an essential career that brung home a steady and well paying check. Half way through community college, I switched and graduated with an Associates in Business Administration before transferring to complete my Bachelors in Marketing.
I knew if I was going to really do the college thing, I needed to study something I enjoyed and not just something my parents or society approved of. I’ve always loved drawing, painting, designing or anything that involves me expressing myself in an artistic way. I started my business Queen$ Club LLC in 2017 after going through a phase of consistently second guessing myself. Queen$ Club is a clothing company that creates an experience beyond fashion. We design and make custom garments. Queen$ Club aims to inspire and make a difference using sustainable practices. We are currently in the re-launching phase right now but I have a private portfolio and take certain clients.
Jussjustine is separate and represents the Marketer, Creative Director, and Content Creator, Multi-faceted Queen and Market Partner.
I help clients with:
-Executing visuals and creative concepts
-Designing logos for their brands
-Directing on set
-Event Styling
-Event Coordination
-Designing merchandise
-Storytelling
-Skin, hair and wellness
I’m most proud of my individual growth because that’s played a big part in my growth as a Creative and Entrepreneur. I’m in my own world, figuring out ways to create opportunities for others like myself, people around me and within my community.
I believe in producing quality in all aspects and I’m a strong believer in getting rest and finding balance between work and having fun.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Well, I honestly am still finding and figuring out ways to fund my brand and business endeavors. Initially the money came from me and still does. I opened a business account a few years ago and just started saving. I already had a savings for myself but eventually I got really serious with saving. I started paying myself and putting money aside for my business.
I attend vending events and host projects to help with funding and marketing.
I am definitely still figuring it out but If someone asked me for advice I’d say to make sure you are paying yourself first and when it comes to equipment, invest over time and research refurbished items. Take advantage of grants, certain contest and ASK for help. I did and still do struggle with asking for help but all it takes is one person and the right “yes.” All in all, take your time, protect your dreams & stay focused because the money will come.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The freedom to express yourself. It’s so beautiful when the vision in your head is executed in reality. Plus, making money doing what you enjoy is the dream. At least to me it is.
Thank you CanvasRebel for this opportunity.
