Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mariah Brown . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mariah, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My parents did what any great parent would do, they supported my decision to become a cosmetologist. They didn’t push me into going to a college for four plus years to do something I was not interested in.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
When I was in high school, I had always had an eye for the beauty industry. After I had graduated, I started beauty school at Paul Mitchell San Antonio in August of 2014. I felt a lot of classes and hands on practice on the mannequin heads just came natural to me. I finished all my hours and passed my tests, earning my license in July 2015. Today, I am full time stylist at Wavelengths Hair Studio in Boerne, Texas. I specialize in vivid colors and balayage techniques. I love helping my clients with any hair needs they may have and teaching them at home care. I am very passionate about my work. I am huge on continuing my education on techniques and product knowledge.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Other than the training and knowledge in my field, I believe building a connection with people is a big part of succeeding in my career. I enjoy getting to know a lot of people and helping with their hair in any way I can. I also love having that connection because I learn a lot as well.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
I think I would choose the same profession because for me, hair, nails and makeup just came natural to me. I also did not enjoy going to school. I wanted to graduate high school early and for beauty school, I would do anything extra to get hours done and graduate as early as I could. I wanted to start my career and start a new chapter in my life. I can’t imagine starting all over and doing a whole different career.
