We recently connected with Lyndeya Moore and have shared our conversation below.
Lyndeya, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I started off with just being a nail tech. I love everything about doing nails. Years later I went to school for massage therapy and fell in love with that. Right after massage school came esthetics. My mind kept evolving as my skills kept growing. I finally came up with the idea to have a spa for men. I have so many complex emotions about it. It’s a risk but I would stand out. There’s a big need for men’s self care facilities. Even tho women make up the majority of consumers of the beauty industry, I love the thought of educating and introducing self care to men of all ages. It’s needed. Men need relaxation too. They need a moment to unwind and cater to themselves. I want my business to be the place that men feel safe to come to.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I started off getting my nail license. I wanted to offer more so I went to massage therapy school. During massage school I realized the impact it can have on a persons lifestyle. I knew then that I wanted to own a spa one day and that I wanted to learn every skill there was to offer. I currently offer nail care, facials, back facials, and massages. I feel like offering these services to men automatically sets me apart. I’m competing differently in the beauty industry. I introduce a new lifestyle to men and teens. I educate the importance of keeping themselves up. I want future clients to know that as men, it is ok to relax. It’s ok to get a massage or facial. They don’t have to live with stress and work through it because they were taught that they had to.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
There have been a lot of things that set me back. When I started my business I had no clue what I was doing. I had to keep learning and go through trials in order to keep going. Owning a business is more than just skill. You have to wear many hats and know how to do them all effectively. I’ve lost suites, I’ve had to start my business and clientele over but I kept going. I’ve changed the direction of my business multiple times until something worked efficiently. No matter what you don’t give up. You change directions but your end goal stays the same.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy has been catering to the clientele I already had. My clients received money off for being loyal. I created an experience for them. That also goes along with staying consistent with email marketing and social media. Most of all, going out to meet people in your community is most effective.
