We were lucky to catch up with Johnathon Nolen recently and have shared our conversation below.

Johnathon, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?

Purifi IV started with an idea. In the high stress, fast-paced work environment of an ER in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, Dr. Nelson and I began talking. We took an oath as medical providers to “do no harm.” As emergency department (ER) providers, we are able to help patients experiencing life-threatening conditions. For us, however, doing no harm goes beyond helping individuals when their health fails; it means helping individuals live their best lives now. What if we could help people not just when they were dying, but help them live thriving lives now?

When we looked at the sea of options in the natural, preventative health space, we were immediately drawn to IV hydration and vitamin infusion. Hydration is such a key ingredient to a healthy life and does wonder for our muscles, minds, hearts, and mood. We love that we can help people get nearly 100% absorption of high-quality, pharmaceutical-grade vitamins, minerals, and amino acids that do everything from boosting energy to regulating heart rate to boosting weight loss.

Through the Covid-19 pandemic, we also saw nurses giving so much in difficult circumstances. We desired to give these healthcare heroes a great place to work on the side where they could focus on doing what they love in a less stressful environment.

We opened a storefront in Suwanee, Georgia and we also offer mobile IV and shot services all over metro Atlanta and the city of Atlanta. Our shop has a traditional IV clinic feel in the front of the space with chaise loungers and curtains for privacy and a lounge feel in the back of the space with large televisions and comfortable seating groups. We wanted to create a place to come alone or with friends and loved ones and really relax and get self-care.

We have been open for almost a year now, and so far, we love taking care of people! We have also partnered with a others in Cornelius, North Carolina and Brentwood, Tennessee to bring hydration and vitamins to their communities through a additional locations of Purifi IV.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

We offer IV hydration, vitamin infusion, and vitamin shots in our storefront in Suwanee, Georgia. We also offer our services in homes, businesses, hotels, and more through our mobile unit.

We are unique in a few ways. First, our staff makes us unique. We, the founders, are ER providers, which gives us a unique perspective on how to help people fuel their bodies with hydration and nutrients like vitamins to feel great. We hire RNs with emergency training so we know that our clients will be in good hands.

Next, our offerings set us apart. We offer electrolyte testing, which allows us to check kidney function. We love that we are able to act as a bridge between our community and the ER. Our signature drips are recipes focused on specific needs like energy, immunity, weight loss, and more. Another differentiator for Purifi IV is that we mix our IV bags under a vent hood fresh for each client to avoid deterioration of the nutrients. We also offer a line of injections.

Finally, our space makes Purifi IV unique. We have a traditional IV bar feel in our front space with chaises and privacy curtains. We offer iPads and Beats for a relaxing and private experience. Our back space feels more like a lounge. We have sofas in conversational arrangements as well as large TVs for a more social experience.

Seeing people well is so important to us, and we are really enjoying helping individuals find wellness through hydration and vitamins!

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?

One of the biggest challenges has been to grow into the position of small business owners. We are playing many roles as we grow our clinic. We are challenged daily to learn the logistics of running a business such as supply ordering, payroll processing, and social media presence marketing. This is not to mention that we still currently work full-time in the ER. The growth has been challenging but also exciting and even fun.

We feel prepared for the challenges facing us as new business owners because we have faced many trials leading up to this season of our lives. Dr. Nelson grew up in Macon, GA. He was raised by a single mother with a Master’s Degree in Education who worked three jobs to make ends meet. His mother always emphasized not only hard work but the importance of higher-level education and continually encouraged Dr. Nelson to excel in his studies against all odds. He faced many challenges along the way, from balancing being an SEC collegiate athlete as a running back for the University of Georgia football team in his undergraduate schooling, working weekends to save money to pay for his ultimate goal of attending medical school, and trying to maintain the top seat in his class. Dr. Nelson met these obstacles in his life with joy and strength.

Johnathon grew up in South America and southeast Asia before moving with his family back to the United States as a teenager. He had a passion for medicine but faced many rejections while applying to medical programs. With every obstacle, however, he persevered with faith and unrelenting determination. After graduation, he worked in thoracic surgery before moving to the emergency department. He found that the fast-paced environment was a place he could thrive.

Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?

In addition to IV hydration and vitamin infusion, we also offer a small version of an urgent care. We give flu, Strep, and Covid tests to our clients in their cars or homes and can even treat or manage their symptoms. We feel that using our medical knowledge to address the urgent medical needs of our clients and their families allows us to work towards our vision of helping individuals be well.
