We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cash Crawford a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Cash, thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Moving to Nashville. even though Canada and the US are very similar… They are also very different and I went through a bit of a culture shock. It was still the best thing I ever dod for myself though. I drove across the country with two suitcases in a beat up old car all alone and I documented my travels and had the best trip. It made me brave. It made me have the confidence to move away from friends and family and my home country to a place where I didn’t know many people our have mush in the way of work. I just had to figure it out…. and I think I did well.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well, Ive been singing and making music since I was very young. I don’t think I ever “got into it” I think it was in my bones when I was born. So far I have a few songs out online and I plan on releasing a whole lot more. I think what sets me apart from others is my sound and my honesty in my lyrics. I always try to write from a place of experience and vulnerability because I know others are probably going through or have gone through similar situations. Music is my way of sharing how I made it and what I learned in the process. I think that is also one of the things I’m most proud of. The lovers of my music can always rely on the fact that I’m not afraid bear my heart and soul.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I think its important to know that every creative is different. the process looks different for each individual. well all have our strengths and weaknesses and there is space for all of it. Creatives also don’t fit into the 9-5 box very often. The ebbs and flows of art making don’t always follow that routine so it can be really hard to try and conform to that lifestyle.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Buy art! all kind!! And get it directly from the artist if possible. as we saw during covid, the arts are so important to keep us going. but creating and sharing music and film, paintings, sculptures anything has costs. In order to keep creating we need to make enough to live and still pour into the things our inspiration comes from. So support the artists and creatives that you love.
