We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Katrina Blyum a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Katrina, appreciate you joining us today. How do you feel about asking friends and family to support your business? What’s appropriate, what’s not? Where do you draw the line?
The hardest part about owning a business is actually having your friends and family support you properly and not them just saying they support you. It’s important for them to like, comment, share your products achievements etc. not just on social media but also in the real world as they encounter individuals looking for a service like yours instead of promoting big Corps.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Trenity Design was started back in the Fall of 2010. The journey started fast the 1st 6months and came to a hault for 10yrs as I focused on raising my child. Starting back in Fall of 2021 with a fashion show I have not stopped since. Trenity has been part of 5 shows since starting back up, 2 were competition shows and 1 was in NY for Fall 2022 NYFW.
Trenity has mostly focused on women’s clothing but is slowly opening the door for men’s styles as well. We believe here that ‘No matter you size, shape, or color. Trenity will cover’. This fall Trenity presented the most expensive outfits containing over 1700 pearls going upwards of $20,000. The goal for Trenity is to one day dress individuals for red carpet, film, music videos etc.
Each individual item is made with lots of attention to detail, love, passion, and good energy. These are not just clothes but my wearable art that I hope others can appreciate and not feel they need to compare to others.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Funding this business has been the hardest part. Everything comes out of my own pocket. Fabrics are getting more expensive and 1 outfit can cost over $200+ just for the supplies. I just had to go for it and started buying things when I could and thats how i still unfortunately have to function. Over the years luckily my supplies has increased however its a never ending need.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building your customer base or audience comes with persistent sharing of your work. It’s also very important to continue to network everywhere you go and to invest in marketing too. Working and networking with models, photographers, promoters, musicians eyc has been the biggest help pushing the name out into the world. As a business owner another very important thing to do when it comes to social media is watching patterns and trying to figure out algorithms to keep being in front of your audience.
