Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alexander Scott. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alexander , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
As a child I was keenly into music and visual art. Growing up in Mexico City art is basically bleeding from its streets. Graffiti and street art are a big component of it’s culture going all the way back to days of the Aztecs and Mayans. My family surrounded me with good music and art. My father had an amazing LP collection and I would sneak into the living room and play his records. My mother played the Quatro and would sing me Beatles songs and folk songs from her home country of Venezuela.
To be honest the moment I knew I would pressure music and artistry was when my big sis gifted me her cherry red American standard fender telecaster at the tender age of 15. That moment set my soul on it’s most gratifying path.

Alexander , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I manage a local Austin print shop called The Yah Team and I am also a Songwriter, singer, and guitarist in a band called SATALiGHTS. I started SATALiGHTS right before moving from Boston, MA
to Austin, Texas. The name came from staring out at the night sky.
The band has been active for nearly 10 years in Austin. It has had many different formations. We have 2 albums and have have toured. Currently the band is a 4 piece Intergalactic post-rock, post-punk band.
Mark Romano plays the drums. Rudy Rivera plays the guitar, and Joseph Gardner plays the bass.
Right before the release of our LP ‘’Little Star’’ I reached out to a good friend, Jonathan Garza, for help with the printing of a coloring book that would come with the vinyl. He is always kind and willing to help a fellow creative. During the process of printing the coloring book I asked Jon what it would take to make my own merchandise.
We printed a set of 20 or so SATALiGHTS shirts in a small room crowded with large art pieces. We had little knowledge on how to do it but we went for it and haven’t stopped since.
Jonathan and I have worked hard and we are now serving bands, businesses, artists, brands, and creatives of all sorts by printing their dreams on t-shirts, fine art prints , hats , etc. Honestly, it is quite the dream for us as well.
Our name is The Yah Team and you can find us on Instagram @theyahteam.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
They are the future, whether you like it or not. SATALiGHTS were selected as early access creators for the GameStop NFT marketplace and we are super excited. NFTs are more than just expensive jpegs. When you buy a song on iTunes, you are purchasing a license to play that song, you don’t own the actual song. When you play our songs on Spotify, we make fractions of a penny. When you buy an NFT of our song, GameStop takes a super small fee (like pennies), but we get most of the dough. This is how artists will be supported rather than your money going to a corporation. When you re-sell a CD, the artist makes no royalty. If someone sells our NFT on the marketplace, we make 10% of that transaction every time. It’s always tied to us. This is what decentralization looks like and what blockchain tech allows, it’s awesome.
You don’t need an account or digital wallet to view our NFTs (more coming very soon).

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Buy art that makes you feel stuff, listen to music made by people and not corporations. Read books that inspire you. If you make art, support your peers in whatever way possible.
We’re all in it together.
