We were lucky to catch up with Presley & Taylor recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Presley & Taylor thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
As sisters, we grew up singing and performing together at school talent shows, church, and family gatherings. One year, as a Christmas gift, our parents brought us into the recording studio in our home state of Connecticut to sing a few songs. At 14 and 16 years old we were immediately bit by the bug. We have been writing, recording, and performing our music ever since. A lot of people wonder if we always wanted to be a duo or wanted to do our own thing at any point. As best friends, it was never a question and being a duo just happened organically.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We’re a sister duo who write and perform together. We’ve been playing quite a few shows over the past five years both as headliners and opening for mega superstars like Old Dominion, Martina McBride, Sammy Kershaw, Jimmie Allen and many more, including performing with Pam Tillis at the Grand Ole Opry and CMA Fest stages several years in a row. Along with our terrific band, we’ve also had the privilege to play for huge audiences on festival stages including Country Thunder SK, Country Thunder WI, and Gulf Coast Jam, among others.
In addition we are now members of the ONLY all-female favorite country music singer-songwriter showcase series, Song Suffragettes, and regularly appear on WSM’s “Coffee, Country and Cody” and have forged key relationships and industry partnerships with outlets like Country Rebel and the Pedigree Foundation.
Industry veteran James Stroud took notice of us and we were signed to his White Mustang label in 2020 as its flagship act. Since then, our music has been added to coveted Spotify editorial playlists New Boots, Wild Country, Breakout Country, Next From Nashville, and more, and the videos for fan-favorite tracks “Don’t Even Know Your Mama,” and “Everybody Sees It” landed on the No.1 and No. 2 spots on the fan-voted CMT ”12-Pack Countdown”.
Lately we’ve been writing and recording songs for our upcoming project produced by Jimmy Ritchey, which is slated for 2023. “We are looking to build a career that hopefully lasts a lifetime”. “We have massive goals and expectations for our career, and God willing, there’s really no stopping where our music can take us!”
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
As growing artists in the music industry it can feel impossible to make headway sometimes. The best ways to support your favorite independent and up-and-coming artists are to listen to and share their music. Share it with your friends and family on social media and interact with their account. Social media numbers are really important for artists, but they don’t mean anything if you don’t take action. The biggest way to support your favorite artists and their dreams is to buy tickets and merchandise at their shows. This directly supports artists and musicians. Just showing up is the fuel to the fire. At the end of the day, us artists just want to find our crew that we relate to and relates to us through the beautiful gift of music.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Music is such a special and powerful part of life. It’s a responsibility and an honor to create something so personal and put it out into the world. The most rewarding part of it all is when other people relate to our story and our songs. Music has always been there for us and if our music can be there for somebody else when they need it then we’ve done our job.
