We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tammy Reese. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tammy below.
Alright, Tammy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I began my career with The Media Unit’s TV and Stage Production Company when I was 12 years old. After watching so many horror, comedy and drama tv shows with my parents I began to act out so many characters that my parents knew I needed to pursue a career in acting. After auditioning for The Media Unit the rest was history. I was a member of The Media Unit for 8 years. In that time, we would perform in over 60 live stage shows a year as well as produce a weekly tv program called “Rough Times Live” out of our public access tv station. I was the host and technical director. I loved media and performing arts since I was a kid. I never wanted to do anything else, but be in the media and entertainment industry.

Tammy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My background is in stage and film acting, writing, and directing. Over the course of my career, I’ve received numerous awards for writing and acting. Some of my most recent awards include the 2018 40 Under Forty Award, and the 2019 WCNY/PBS Makers: Women Who Make America Award.
I graduated from Empire State College with a degree in media studies.
As of late, I have dived into my journalism passion and have flourished as a multimedia professional contributing to numerous media platforms such as for the New York Women in Film and Television’s Podcast, Heart of Hollywood Magazine, Cultured Focus Magazine, and Hustle and Soul Magazine. As a veteran member of the press, I’ve covered a ton of industry events and press conferences for The Academy Awards, Sundance Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival, HBO Max, The Roku Channel, Lifetime, BET, Starz, Prime Video, AMC, TV One, Urban One Honors, Black Music Honors, Black Media Honors, AllBLK, and many more.
I am best known for my celebrity interviews with a list stars such as Geena Davis, Courtney Kemp, Omar Epps, Laurence Fishburne, Meagan Good, Sigourney Weaver, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Ross Marquand, Nelly, and Joseph Sikora to name a few.
I am also the owner of Visionary Minds Public Relations and Media. Our goal is to assist up-and-coming business owners and talents build their brands through digital media.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Losing my mother in January 2020 and then a global pandemic lockdown happening in March 2020 was so hard for me mentally and emotionally. I had to be strong as a mother and a business owner to keep going, be strong and never give up. My mom was my biggest supporter. Losing her has changed my life in so many ways. I know she is so proud of all I have done since she passed.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I love when my clients are so happy that they are seen in the press. It’s so hard for unknown names and talents to get their talents and services seen by the masses. Being a storyteller through journalism, public relations, and entertainment is so rewarding every day.
