Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to AngelTheStar. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
AngelTheStar, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
As a young girl, I would sing, all day everyday. My love for singing and music was apart of me at an early age. When I saw my older brother perform and sing and how he could always command the stage like Michaeal Jackson, I knew I could do that, if if that meant doing background for my brother one day, I was like, I can do that! It wasn’t until I got the gig, or opportunty of a lifetime, to perform professinally with Grammy Nominated artist Musiq Soulchild, as his background vocalist, on the Year Of the Gengltemen tour with Neyo, and Jasmine Sullivain, is when I realized, that ok, I can actually do this as my profession, and the rest is history.
AngelTheStar, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is AngelTheStar, im a performer, singer, songwriter here in Atlanta, Ga. I’ve singing professionally now for 13yrs, and its been nothing but a rollercoaster ride, full of up’s and some downs, but I wouldn’t trade what I do, for nothing in the world. How I got started in the music industry is a story that never gets old, everytime i get asked this question I always say, it was a God thing. I was a college student, it was midterms and I had a few videos online, and my mother, said to me, I’ll never forget this, to send my video to him, “I said, who, Musiq Soullchild?” “She said, who ever child, he is, send it to him” Well, I sent it to him, and when I came back from the store, I had a email from his assistant, and she was asking me all kind of questions, like, how long have you been singing, how old are you, do you have a passport, I mean serious questions. My mind was so blown, I just couldnt believe, that a celebrity had reachead out to me, because I sent that video. To this day, I always thank my mom, for telling me to do that, because if I didn’t, I could’ve missed out on something great, which was the start of my career.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Hands down the most rewarding part about being an artist, is the joy that you bring to people every time you step foot on that stage. To know that I was apart of making that persons day a little better than what it was before they came, I then know, that I’ve done my job.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When i had to say goodbye to my mother for the last time, was one of the hardest things, I think I ever had to do in life, let alone this journey. She was my manager, cheerleader, spiritual adviser, you name it, she was that for me. That was three years ago now, and the thing that keeps me going is the drive I saw her have, to the very end of her journey, here on earth. What drives me each and everyday now, is that no matter how hard life may get, as long as your living, you still have time to make a difference and an inpact on this world and someone, because that’s what my mom, did for me, and I hope that I can be that to someone, and pay it forward.
