We were lucky to catch up with KYLE JACKSON recently and have shared our conversation below.
KYLE, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
My most meaningful project would be “un jour j’espère.” I’m currently working on this piece. This particular painting holds so much personal equity due to the emotional stages of creation. Each new layer added seems to directly yield to a form of self I’m working to become while unlearning in stillness..personal growth at times can be tumultuous, and beautiful at the switch of perspective.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
My introduction to art started young. A day before I was to turn 7 months old, I somehow created a portrait. 33 yrs later, I have been honored to still have the privilege of creating portraits for others. Each piece of art I create, I do my best to make the viewer/owner feel the vitality & living elements placed purposefully. I’m Grateful for the ability to operate in love while creating different states of art. When we as artists create, sometimes we tend to forget that whatever force we personally operate in, unless refined, it will be seen and felt in everything touched, so why not remember what made you love creating from the start. If I can humble say I would take pride in as an Artist is that each individual piece created aside from personal work, is generated from a place created from understanding which allows me to fully immerse myself into the flow and feel of what’s being requested in art form. In return, I’m able to connect with what a client may be looking for beyond a face, landscape, etc… bringing forth meaningful pieces tailored to what is felt when expressing why you wanted that piece created to start… Je Vais Bien was created originally as a daily reminder that I would be okay each day with the surrounding changes we all see… the feelings we try to evolve so tomorrow will feel better, and a reasonable sense of optimism can be kept pocketed rather than wished for…
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
A few books I’ve read that gave me a better perspective on life would be Stalking The Wild Pendulum by Itzhak Bentov, The Kybalion by Hermetic Philosophers, and As A Man Thinketh by James Allen. Each reading gave me a deeper understanding of how to navigate, nurture, control and adjust this human vessel.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I chose to unlearn unfavorable traits and habits developed in my youth. Most of my unlearning did not come as easy as painted by social media in the information era.. I reached a point in life where I couldn’t feel who I was… I was numb and drifting in and out of self trying to understand how to be a better individual while trying to see your current events in life as steps rather than mountains… in return distractions, and poor choices caused pain. No one tells you that change isn’t an overnight situation, and awareness of self is key when you begin to set on that journey. It’s gonna be heavy but beautiful if you can finally free yourself from subconscious holds that control might negatively affect your conscious decisions.
