We were lucky to catch up with Janice and Abel recently and have shared our conversation below.

Janice and Abel, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?

The podcast began during the pandemic as lots of podcasts seemingly came to be. During the very beginning, it was all trial and error. Quite honestly, we simply winged it! Googled information, asked friends within the podcast community, basically just hands on learning. The most challenging learning curve was being able to figure out how to not just upload but how to properly edit two adults’ talking all things geeky into an hour long, cohesive podcast. And with each day, we still learn something new.

Janice and Abel, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

We are Janice and Abel of The Stay Nerdy Podcast. An Orlando-based podcast where we talk about the latest and greatest in TV, movies, comic books, and everything in between. The podcast started two years ago as Two Wild and Nerdy Girls. Unfortunately, the original co-host had to bow out and Abel, who would guest host, became the permanent co-host. The name transitioned to The Stay Nerdy Podcast. Our goal is to provide a laid-back atmosphere where two adults can have a fun, in-depth conversation about what is going on in geek culture. The biggest thing for us is making sure that we are all-inclusive and as diverse as possible knowing that there is a wide spectrum of listeners.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?

We strongly believe that supporting artists begins with embracing diversity. There are so many talented artists that simply do not have a voice within the community who struggle to be seen. Visit a local art fair and buy some art. Show some love to your favorite local musician through social media and help bring awareness to their craft. Share their creations however you can with as many people as you can. Word of mouth is still a great way to introduce new things to people. Promote others through your own channels and social media. A simple recommendation can go a long way.

Is there a mission driving your creative journey?

Our biggest goal and what we set out to do with The Stay Nerdy Podcast is to normalize what is “geek” or “nerd” culture. To show that two professional adults can have a fun conversation about what we love and what many adults love within the world of movies, TV, comic books and pop culture. We want to use our platform, not only to talk about the latest entry into the MCU but to also bring awareness to things like mental health, showing support for diversity and proper representation for ALL backgrounds, races and sexual orientations and that they are seen and heard. We want people to know that we will be their voice when they feel they don’t have one. That is very important to us.
