Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Steve Perrino. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Steve thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Persistence mostly. Progress is not a linear process, so there are times that make you feel like you’re failing and things get tough, and that’s when most people quit. The people who are successful are the ones who stick through the tough times because they want it so badly that it’s worth it to them. And opportunities come and go, and that means you’ll consistently be around to take them.
I’ll also mention that self-awareness is important. In terms of understanding your own strengths and weaknesses, areas you could improve or delegate to someone else, etc. It takes strength to reflect and be truly honest with yourself, and objectively assess whether you’re the right person for a certain task, need to educate yourself on something, or simply work on being better.

Steve, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a Producer & Audio Engineer. I co-own a recording studio in Cleveland and I help bands write and record their music. I mostly work with genres such as pop-punk, hardcore, metal, and indie. I’m passionate about making sure the song that leaves my studio is better than how it arrived. I’m very hands-on when I work with bands because I want to offer that objective point of view that can be crucial with creative endeavors. That collaboration between an artist and an experienced Producer can really be the difference between a song being good vs. being great.
The thing I’m most proud of in my latest productions is the level of detail we get down to when making records. I have a strong belief that the magic is in the tiny details that seem insignificant in the moment, but create something awesome when all those small factors add up. Whether that’s spending time getting the perfect guitar tone or even choosing the right guitar pick to use for a certain part of the song. In my opinion, there is no element in the recording process that is worth glancing over.
Of course we’re human and we can’t catch everything, and there’s only so much time in the day. But I like to approach every session with that mindset, at least.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
One book that really changed things for me was “The Power of Focus”, by Jack Canfield. I read this at a time when I really needed clarity on my goals, mindset, and priorities. This book is awesome and I read it about once a year for a quick refresh. It’s really motivating, and it’s great to “recalibrate” where I’m focusing my time and energy.
“Think & Grow Rich” is another one, which I’m sure most business owners read at some point. I don’t necessarily think “rich” needs to mean “become a millionaire”, I think in a general sense it’s just referring to your current goal and the mindset you need to manifest it. I’ve watched things happen in my life that are a result of this mindset and I really value this book.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission is to simply help bands create something great that we’re all proud of and that listeners will love. I’m working at becoming better every day so it can be even greater with every record we make. The best feeling in the world is when we finish a song or a record, and everybody has that feeling that something truly special just happened. To me, growth in my career means reaching more listeners who will have special music to enjoy.
