Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Johnny The Good Villain. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Johnny, appreciate you joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I watch the people doing it. When I say that I don’t mean the people in positions way out of reach from me. The people in the spot right above me aren’t out of reach for me to gain some knowledge from, usually.
I could’ve sped up my learning process of the music industry if there was more information from “trustworthy” and “reliable” sources on the internet. My business skills and education definitely helped me make conscious decisions that have paid off.
The biggest obstacle in most artists path including mines is usually having enough money to do what they need to do. At any level, having money to finance music videos, music production, marketing, and promotions, is always going to be a hurdle. You can only do what your pockets, resourcefulness, and your hustle allows.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Johnny, a rap artist, CEO, and content creator. I got into the music industry because I knew that I could take everything that I have learned learned and make a sustainable income off my talent for pulling it all together.
Music production engineer and recording artist, graphic artist, content creator. I have 6 years of experience, multiple viral videos, over 3 Million content views and over 400,000 Apple Music streams this year. Next year I will be opening my label to a few artists and we expect to have even more presence in more corners of the industry.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Be present but not overly accessible. Make content that is related to what you do. Find your niche and build off of that with a core fanbase. Know what level of success you are comfortable at but also how to get there and stay there. Listen to people who you don’t agree with, even they can say something that may change your perspective on something and change your life. Be a good human!
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Share it! Friend painted a portrait. Share it! Sister’s band is playing this weekend. Share it! Go to events, like their work if it’s good and noone else likes it. Encourage them in public and on social media. Be a good human!
