Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bronsonn Taylor. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Bronsonn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you tell us about an important lesson you learned while working at a prior job?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is to treat everyone with the same dignity and respect you would expect to be treated with regardless of their social economic status or appearance. When I was a young Soldier I was very unruly. I had gotten into a number of altercations and finally my commander had enough. It was at that moment my soon to be mentor steps in. He said he was that unruly kid once and that all I needed was someone to show me that they truly cared. He was right. I grew up without a father or father figure. My mother was heavily addicted to drugs while I was growing up so my environment raised me. Once I saw that some truly cared for me I latched on and followed his every word. From that point forward I made it my mission to show everyone that I came in contact with that I truly care about them because sometimes that all you need.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I served 25 years in the military in various roles and duties. After retirement I had no idea what to do with myself because I had joined the military at 17 years old during my junior year of high school. All I know is the military life and now I have to figure things out. I knew I didn’t want to work for the military any more so I went to grad school and earned my degree in Cyber Intelligence. While in grad school I came across an advertisement for acting classes and decided why not. While in class I discovered my calling. I only attended class for two semesters before I signed with an agent and booked my first role on a tv network. What sets me apart from other actors that I know is my dedication. I am an extremely driven person so once I get focused on something it becomes my life. What I am most proud of is that I do not let the success I’ve obtained change who I am at my core, as well as not allowing my failures to dictate who I am either.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The biggest blessing for me is learning that military mentality band civilian mentality are starkly different. I was always taught to be at least 10 minutes early to everything so I would show up about 30 minutes prior so I didn’t have to rush. However, in the civilian sector the arrival time is more of an approximation, not definitive.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Over the past 3 years since I’ve began acting I’ve done approximately 1000 auditions of which I’ve booked 56. In the entertainment industry you’re going to be told no a lot and for most people it’s overwhelming. The lesson here is that no matter how many times you’re knocked down you get back up dust yourself off and try again.
