Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Isabel Amigon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Isabel, thanks for joining us today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
It was on June 10th 2016 at the Hudson Valley Farmers Market in Yonkers NY was my first event had my tent my table and merch set everything up and I was so nervous I was shaking kept thinking it’s anyone going to like anything it’s anyone going to appreciate all handmade things and then boom my first customer approach the tent say hi what beautiful colors looked at a recycle plastic tote told her the story of how it’s made and she was impressed and said I’ll take it I had the biggest smile on my face and right after tears running down my face of pure joy.
Isabel, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Let’s see I’m Isabel a color obsessed cactus lover, master mind , fabric obsessed founder of Sololi. For as long as I remembers, I knew I wanted to help how had no idea but it definitely needed to be something that made my heart happy.
I aim to support and inspire others to support my cause not only by buying beautiful merchandise but also by knowing that with every purchase not only are you supporting my family but the families of everyone involved from beginning to end and that it doesn’t stop there also a portion of all sales it’s donated to a nonprofit that supports undocumented students in the Hudson valley.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I’m 100% self founded spoke with my husband told him my business idea he said go for it and stared with a couple hundred dollars.
We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
I started on Etsy but months into it decided that I needed my own website and looked up how to build a site went with Shopify used one of there Free website templates at the beginning as I learn how to build the website and as time went by the more a learn about website layouts the more I changed. Etsy it’s definitely great because the customer that go there are looking for something already so it’s definitely easier for customers too find you unfortunately the fees are really high and one of the reason I needed my own website cons about it is that now I really have to use all the tools available to guide customers directly to the website.
