We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Diamond Lewis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Diamond below.
Diamond, appreciate you joining us today. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
I was in college. A contestant running in the Miss Residence Hall Pageant asked if I could do her makeup. I was super nervous and anxious! But I was able to execute her desired look
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got my start with makeup in college. I attended VSU. It started as a side hustle to have a source of income throughout school. After deciding to leave school, I was hired to work at a beauty bar in Atlanta. I perfected me craft and truly fell in love with making women feel beautiful!
My reputation for being both professional and personable with my clients is what I’m most proud of! In the beauty industry, we are often seen as unprofessional. So I strive to maintain a certain level of professionalism when it comes to my clients.
I offer a wide range of services from wedding to costume makeup!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Word of mouth! Your work truly speaks for itself in this industry. Seeing a girl with great makeup, hair, or nails might prompt you to ask “Who’s you stylist?”. That’s usually what happens in my case.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
It is okay to fail. I used to take my failures pretty hard. I would beat myself up non stop when things would not go as planned. Until one day I realized my failures were great learning tools. You fall down 3 times to get back up 10! That is what I live by.
