We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jessie Svec. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jessie below.
Jessie, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Our mission is provide an easy and affordable access point for people to disconnect from all the chaos of their everyday lives and take a nature reset. To be away from notifications, distractions and screens. To feel comfortable and confident eating, sleeping and exploring in places they have never been. To falling back into a natural rhythm, rising the sun and winding down when it sets.
There is something remarkably rejuvenating about experiencing the blanket of stars with the stillness of the earth. To feel so small yet so alive.

Jessie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My family has been a “camping family” for as long as I can remember. Sleeping in tents, eating under the stars, waking up in absolutely beautiful places. As a kid, I remember it fondly but as an adult I can’t get enough of it.
But it wasn’t until coming back from a camping trip with my older brother on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon that the idea of PitchKit took root. Camping and spending time in nature was just something we did and loved.
As we shared photos and stories of the trip with friends and work colleagues, we started hearing a similar refrain.
“How did you know what you needed? How long did it take you to plan that? How did you get all the gear? I wish I could do something like that”
We started to realize that if camping isn’t something are you regularly committed to, then the idea of preparing yourself (comfortably and successfully) for spending time in nature without the comforts of home – is intimating.
What temperature rating should my sleeping bag have? Should I invest in a sleeping pad (the answer is always yes.) How much water do I need to pack per adult per day?
The hours of research, the monetary investment and the physical space requirements needed to store all your gear – is a lot. to think about and invest in – especially if someone hasn’t fallen in love with camping yet.
And then the idea took root.
What if we could created rentable, fully loaded kits that included all the gear necessary to have a good time outside? A kit that took out the guesswork and just made sure you were prepared sleep, eat and adventure outside?
PitchKit is like Airbnb – but for camping (maybe even a little better stocked).
We provide all the gear you would need to stay dry, warm, comfortable and able to feed and caffeinate yourself while enjoying the undeniable beauty of our countries national and state parks.
We provide an easy access point for people to get comfortable camping – without having to invest time, money or space.
What we are most proud about is our PitchKitchen. Nothing tastes better than a meal you have prepared for yourself outside. However, the “kitchen tote” is usually the biggest mess. Nothing stays organized. Cups rolling everywhere, oil and spices coating the bottom, can’t find what you need when you need it.
Enter the PitchKitchen. The most organized, easy to use, compact portable kitchen.
Stove and propane – check.
Coffee set up – for sure
Organized drawers with cutlery, serving utensils, spices and oil – you bet.
We have designed and produced a camping kitchen that is honestly more organized than my actual kitchen. It elevates meal time, coffee time and camping cocktail hour :)
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Referrals. Hands down, if someone has a good time and recommends us to friends or family that is the best source for new business and the best kind of customer.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
The co-founders of this business are my two brothers. Working with family is equal parts and amazing and frustrating. Each of us have a job outside of PitchKit and the balance between jobs, family etc has been a challenge. But at the end of the day we are helping people do something we love and ultimately think will help preserve our parks and public spaces. The more people who fall in love with the wonder and beauty of nature will work harder to protect and preserve it.
