We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Micheal Dorthey a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Micheal, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
To give financial freedom to my communities and those that are willing to learn. To bring more jobs and training to others as well
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into the industry by working under a great friend of mines. I was laid off from my job back in 2009. She was running a tax consulting company and asked me to come on board since I was out of work. She trained me and it was on go from there. I worked with her business for 3 years she taught me everything about the financial side of tax consulting. I went into business for myself 2013. It was a easy transition being I was trained by one of the best. The struggle came my 2nd year in business. Revenue wasn’t the issue it was the hard work I had to put in so this is when I start recruiting for employees to come on board. Each year in business I added another job skill and employee. We went from 1 staff member to three to five them to 10 and now we have 22 team players and over 5 franchise. We went from just filing taxes to credit repair, bookkeeping, tax training, start up business training, help with loan approvals, payroll and real estate. And looking to add more opportunities and training skills in the future
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I saved my money from when I was working with T&L Tax consultants and started my own business it only took me no more then 3k for start up
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social media is a big audience for my business I always post consistently. I always take advice from other business owners and one mention to me that I should share my personal page with my business page. They say u should always keep it separate. I beg to differ. I think my personal pages shares my lifestyle and that brings on others that are inspired and this is how some of my employees came on board and are successful now
