We recently connected with Hannah Taylor and have shared our conversation below.
Hannah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I knew I wanted to pursue music when I was 11 years old. Taylor Swift had released her first album back in 2006 and I had BEGGED my dad to get the CD for me. I remember opening the booklet and seeing that she wrote her own music, and in that moment something just changed for me. I had always had such a love of music, but I hadn’t tried to pursue much in my own, and I wasn’t sure where to start. So, I started performing in local theatres around Indiana, both community and professional, while still writing songs in a notebook that I carried everywhere with me. Eventually as time went on, college was approaching, I decided to leave my small town of Columbia City IN and pursue my dreams of being a singer/songwriter. There have many bumps along the way, but like passion, you just have to keep going. I have three songs out on Spotify,
“I Do”
“little Town Girl”
And
“Over It”, as well as an upcoming single called “I Found You” out November 10th. It’s my first song I ever wrote, once I had moved to Nashville, TN back in 2012, and I wrote it 100% by myself.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well, besides my musics career, I also enjoy making tiktok content! (Previously, I was banned at 100K followers, but hope to build that back up.) There I share about my life, and music. Entertaining people has always been a huge passion of mine, I enjoy making people laugh. I think for me, if I’m not singing, then I really enjoy just making people smile.
I think what can set me apart if that I am ok with failure. I don’t expect to always be the best, and I can find humor in that. I love to support fellow female artists, even though in this industry it can be so difficult to stand out and make friends. Everyone wants to view each other as competition, but I don’t like to live life that way. It’s a lot more fun to support and uplift each other! I really hope people can see that, on any project I work up, especially when it comes to singing and songwriting.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Go to their shows, share the music and art, tell your friends. Even just liking a song, giving it a review, or even streaming can help a small independent artist very significantly. It’s so important that if you see or hear something you like, to just tell people about it. You never know what might happen if you do!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Just having even one person say they can relate to one of my songs, means a lot to me. For me, my music is a diary, and the best way to get to know me. I love being able to connect to someone through music, it definitely helps to feel less alone.
