Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Braylin Hardin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Braylin , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
when my my time is up, I want people to remember me by not just my chef accomplishments, but how I was for my community. My plan is to open up new doors and opportunities for the next generation. Opportunities that were never made for us but learned how to create ourselves. I feel like a lot of people are watching right now and I have to be a role model especially to the younger generations.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started cooking In the kitchen with my mother around 7 years old. Never really took it serious till I was bout 16 and went to trade school my junior and senior year. I always wanted to be an executive chef of a hotel but God had bigger and better plans. I specialize in private dining, soul food and cheesecake! I stay in close contact with my clients in case of a problem but haven’t had any major problems! What sets me apart from others is creativity and the time and grind I put into my craft. I’ve been cooking for 11 years and been doing cheesecakes for two. With over 70 flavors of cheesecake, I feel like I’m top of the game. What I’m most proud of is that I can make somebody’s rainy day into a sunny day with my food. I also love working with the children and helping my community.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
I started making cheesecake during the protest of breonna Taylor. A lady contacted me for a cheesecake and at the time I wasn’t doing cheesecakes. But money was low and I took a chance on it. From there, I kept getting orders, eventually ended up in a few restaurants. Over the last two years, I’ve managed to become one of the top bakers in the area, became the first African American chef to be front page cover of sapphire emerald magazine, on top of other interviews and tv appearances.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Honesty, good marketing, good product, and great customer service got me to where i am today. Without my customers and fans, none of this is possible. They keep me on my toes and keep me motivated to keep going!
