We were lucky to catch up with Tiffany Hill recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Tiffany thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Along with taking care of clients, taking care of our team is one of the most important things we can do as leaders. Looking back on your journey, did you have a boss that was really great? Maybe you can tell us about that boss and what made them a wonderful person to work for?
Dr. James Cowan with Kid’s Care Medical Center was one of the best bosses on my employment journey. When I came to work for his medical practice, I was a young single mother of three children. I had previously completed Medical office training at Concorde Career College and started the adult learner program at Crichton College. The program was weekly on Thursdays for 18 months. At the end of the program I would complete my Bachelor’s of Science in Organizational management. Each week Dr. Cowan would remind me how important it was to complete my education. One day I could own a business.. When my car broke down the office paid for the repairs. Many employers don’t take an interest in their employees outside of the workplace, Dr Cowan and the entire offices did. Today I not only hold that degree but two other professionals degrees. While I didn’t open a medical billing practice, I do own and co-own two businesses.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Hill&co12 Event design was born in 2015. My son was convicted of a crime. I fell into sadness and a depression. I’ve always been crafty and loved entertaining my family and friends. During that time I was planning events for my nonprofit and simply wanted to make favors for the participants. My husband purchased a Cricut and the rest is history. My first official paying client was a baby shower at Pink Palace. That event had a guess that loved my work and it would land me my first wedding. Here we are seven years later doing awesome events for great people. I’m an example of how pain pushes you to purpose.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Word of mouth has been the best marketing plan for me. We have social media pages but the old methods work well. Our 2023 calendar is almost completely booked. When guest attend our produced events they fall in love. I have some clients that think I’m one of the best in the business

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I had no start up funds for my business I started with $1700.00. I would take 30% of my check from my job and purchase things I needed. The first year I would purchase items from yard sales, thrift stores and storage sales. Refurbished items won back then. My aunt would sew all my line and uhaul got rich from our weekly booking. We had friends come work for free and we made it. Today I would really just recommend using all the start up resources
