Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kip Allen. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Kip, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
Taking the risk of becoming a professional musician. I spent most of my school coming up with the goal of being a professional musician but when I took the jump to move to nashville to go to college for it that was a big turning point. It seems to have turned out pretty well as I am now 6 years out of college and I have been able to only do music as my main job.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As a kid I was always interested in music and loved being Involved. When I found drums everything sort of clicked and I felt at home. I did school band and then Drumline for my time in Highschool. After that I went to Belmont University for college. Now I still live in Nashville and tour playing drums and record drums in the studio as well as produce. I can record studio quality drums from My house which I feel like sets me apart from some other drummers. Currently I am most proud of an album I played drums on called “Dark Horse” by Devin Dawson. I also just played on Keith Urban’s newest single “Wild Hearts”
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building my presence on social media started mostly with Instagram. I saw a way to market my business as a touring drummer and as a studio drummer. I would post pictures from touring and videos of me drumming in the studio. These built almost a digital resume for me so people would be able to see what I was about before even reaching out. I strongly recommend using social media to further push your reach to others for your business.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
First off being a good person and being professional in the music industry can get you a lot further than the opposite. It seems obvious but somehow it’s lost on some people. Being able to play on some very popular songs and records helped me tremendously. Also being on the road touring and getting to meet so many new people helped.
