We recently connected with Dre Marquis and have shared our conversation below.

Dre, appreciate you joining us today. Have you signed with an agent or manager? Why or why not?

I am signed to Hayes Talent Agency and 831 Entertainment. My reps are always pushing for me and their other clients. I’ve been with them for some time. Not once have I had to question how hard they work for me and my career goals. They could work with many amazing talented individuals but they saw something in me. The hunger. And I owe them 100% of my effort to thank them for choosing to represent me.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?

What’s up good people?! My name is Dre Marquis. Based in Atlanta by way of Chicago. I’m an actor, writer, and content creator. I got into the industry around 18. Really enjoyed Marine Biology and Cryptozoology prior to (still have a love for it) but a few projects and classes 14 years later, and here we are. And I couldn’t be more grateful.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

Once I finished school I didn’t need to take classes. You ALWAYS need to be in classes and learning as much as possible. Be a sponge.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.

This is not a sprint. It’s a marathon. And it doesn’t happen over night. Trust the process and enjoy the journey. Some people look at me and say “man you made it” and I say “I’m just getting started.” I’m still learning. I don’t know it all. That’s why I stay in classes and on sets. To grow. No you don’t always get a check. But neither do doctors when they are in med school getting it together. Trust yourself. And Inhale. Exhale. Prevail.
