We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ben Cloud a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ben, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?
When I founded Cloud’s Coffee, I wanted to develop a system to create an outstanding customer experience. This ranges from hand-picked coffee beans to handwritten notes in each package. Regardless of what we do, everything is centered around our customers and how we can build a positive customer relationship.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Ben Cloud – I am a 17 year old entrepreneur from Kansas City. I founded Cloud’s Coffee when I was 16 years old off the dream of becoming my own boss. I wanted to create an avenue to express my creativity and love for business. Beginning with an economics class I took sophomore year in high school, I fell in love with everything I learned. I decided to take things into my own hands and landed on coffee due to the market size and opportunities. We solve the problem of over processed coffee that sits on shelves for months. Every single coffee bean we sell is hand-picked, 100% organic, specialty grade, and it’s all shipped out the same day it’s roasted.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Definitely the customer relationships we build. When an order is placed, we take the upmost care to roast, package, and ship the best bag of coffee we can. Every bag is hand signed and contains a roast date to ensure freshness. That way when a package shows up on our customers door, they can trust that they are consuming some of the freshest coffee on the market.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Local marketing strategies. This includes mainly pop ups. When we throw a pop up in Kansas City, it is strategically planned out to build personality. Our CEO attends every pop up, giving customers the opportunity to interact and build trust with the person that is creating the coffee they drink every morning.
