We recently connected with Kanika Blair and have shared our conversation below.
Kanika, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I used to wish I started sooner. But now my thoughts are that I’m at the perfect place in my life and career. Everything has aligned and has happened as it should. When I first started creating art, I wasn’t where I wanted to be in my life. Art was my escape, where I can create my own world, thoughts and feelings. Art has helped me mentally, spiritually and physically. If I would’ve started sooner, I don’t think I would have the same mindset and inner peace that I have now. Which in turn has made my mind clear enough to create and be the best artist I can be for myself and for others who enjoy it.
Kanika, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m an digital artist, animator, creative director, a set designer and a voice talent. I am a forever lover of artistic expression and my creations represent that.
My art is heavily influenced by spirituality, history, astrology, the Renaissance Era, mythologies, and various folktales. I make art showing the beauty and divinity that is within people of color. My art is a mixture of Afrofuturism, surrealism and dreamscapes.
I have a beautiful variety of clients; from musicians who want album art, to business owners who want labels or logos made for their company, to realtors for their clients and themselves as well as homeowners and business owners who want art in their homes and business. I’ve creatively directed music videos, commercials and stories. I’ve also done set design for creatives and artists.
What I’m the most proud of is my evolution and growth as a person and an artist. Every time I create I’m healing myself and that is also why I do it is to heal others. I’m excited and grateful for what’s to come and there is more beauty to be seen from me.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to continue to evolve, create and freely express myself. My mission is to continue live my cycle of life, and to have new, beautiful experiences. My mission is to continue to have love and peace within so that I can heal others, spread positivity, peace and love through my art. To help women embrace their divine femininity. To continue to live my life with love so that I continue to attract love and pour that back into my creations. An endless cycle of happiness.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
As a digital artist, I’ve observed digital art itself is still a genre of art that can be hard for others to understand. But my best advice for Digital Artists, artists and creatives in general is to not let someone else’s or a group of people’s way of thinking or what was deemed to be traditional make you doubt yourself and the way that you create. Continue to work on your artistry, and believe in yourself.
Artists and Creatives have the pleasure of creating worlds out of nothing. So if your art isn’t Traditional or the norm embrace that, be that new thing that people don’t understand yet are intrigued. Be yourself and watch how others gravitate to your art naturally.
