We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Anna Dark a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Anna thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the best advice you ever gave to a client? How did they benefit / what was the result? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
Accomplish a task everyday. No matter how small, accomplish something everyday. It could be as small as making your bed in the morning, to finishing a huge project!! It will instill a good habit, and before you know it, you will have established an excellent habit that will help make your days more organized and efficient!!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Anna Dark. I have been in the fitness/wellness industry for over 30 years. It all started shortly after high school when I entered a fitness facility that I was invited to by a friend. I had a very active lifestyle, so I became engaged with all the activities in the fitness facility. I was employed by the fitness facility shortly after joining as a part time fitness team member. I was a great part time job while I attended the University of Tn (Knoxville). I became so involved with fitness and wellness, that I changed my business major to a health-related major (Nutrition & Food Sciences). I felt it was my calling to help people live healthier lifestyles!! Fast forward to today, I have worked every critical position in the fitness/wellness industry. Out of the many positions I have had, I am most proud of my personal training position because I have the most impact to the individuals that I work with! My most proud moments are when my clients see the results of their hard work!! This includes not only weight loss, but more energy, better mobility, more balance, better lab results from doctor, and frankly becoming healthier individuals by practicing better lifestyle choices!
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
If I could go back in time, I would ABSOLUTELY choose the same profession again. I have so many positive experiences in this industry over the last 3o years and would do it all over again!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I was hired by a fitness company shortly after I graduated from UTK , I was in charge of their Nutrition Program as well as personal training. With my degree in Nutrition, it was a perfect position to start my professional full time career in the fitness industry. When the company started to grow, I chose to step away from the service position I had, to an operations management position with the same company. It was a great choice and really taught me the necessary skills in managing people (staff). It paved a new direction for me that helped me get the current position I have now as Fitness Director of Take Charge Fitness.
