We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kit Crase a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kit, thanks for joining us today. Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
Every year, Hall’s participates in the Beer Cheese Festival in Winchester, KY as a way to get face-to-face feedback, giveaway product, and give away fun swag to our fans. Each year, we learn valuable information about what our fans love and what could be improved. For example, this year we learned that fans love our recipes and want more from us on social media, so we’ve been making a concerted effort to develop more delicious recipes for the website’s blog and to have a regular presence that responds to fans across social media platforms.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Hall’s Beer Cheese is proudly continuing a Kentucky tradition. Our recipe was developed more than half a century ago, making us the original Kentucky beer cheese. Beyond the obvious “beer” and “cheese” in our beer cheese, we have a secret blend of spices and method for combing, which is what gives Hall’s its SNAP. In recent years, we have expanded our offerings from Hall’s Original Snappy Beer Cheese. Now, there is Hall’s Hot-n-Snappy Beer Cheese which has an extra kick of heat, and other favorite snack spreads from Kentucky including Pimento Cheese and Benedictine.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Hall’s name casts a long shadow in the specialty dairy sector and our fans are extremely loyal to our product, so rather than building Hall’s reputation, I’ve had the honor and challenge of being a steward of the legacy. The Hall’s team works hard to respect the responsibility we have to our fans and to being a quintessentially Kentucky food. We never forget our roots which is why we make sure to pop-up and sponsor events throughout the Commonwealth even as we look to expand our market beyond the home territory.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
In a word: FUN! Beer Cheese is a party food–it’s something people enjoy and want at their celebrations, or it’s something they spread on a cracker after a long day at work while they’re making dinner. Our leadership strives to make sure that the fun, relaxed spirit of beer cheese is present in the work place because we know that the Hall’s team does its best work when they’re enjoying themselves. For the day-to-day, this looks like ensuring the team has a good work-life balance via their work schedule and ensuring they have the freedom to personalize their work space and bring their personality with them rather than checking it at the door.
