We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Melissa Romero. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Melissa below.
Melissa, appreciate you joining us today. Who is your hero and why? What lessons have you learned from them and how have they influenced your journey?
My hero is definitely my Dad, who unfortunately passed away of liver cancer in 2021. Before remarrying in 1994, my Dad was a single father struggling to raise 2 little girls. At one point, he even had to turn down his dream job because he was unable to balance the demanding hours and being a single parent. My Dad was always my biggest supporter as well as my best friend. No matter what hurdles I faced in life he was always there to motivate and encourage me to keep going. He always believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself. I struggled for about a year after his passing, until one day I woke up with a new sense of determination. That day I decided to put all that pain and energy into something positive.

Melissa, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Melissa Romero, I am a newly licensed real estate agent in the Houston area. I have been married for 10 1/2 years to my amazingly supportive husband and have 3 children. I left the corporate world back in 2020 during the pandemic due to my children’s schools going virtual. I spent the next year keeping my children’s education on track and just trying to navigate through that crazy, unpredictable time. In June 2022, I decided to enroll in online classes to obtain my Real Estate license. Within 3 months I had finished my classes, passed my exams and had joined an amazing broker team. I remember when we purchased my first home, how stressful the entire experience was for us. I look back and think if I’d had someone there to help navigate us through the process it would have been a lot less stressful. I want to help new home buyers so that they can focus more on the happiness and joy that comes with purchasing their first home and focus less on the stressful parts. Buying a home can be a positive and exciting journey with the right agent on your side and I would love to be that person.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Joining a well known and respected broker team has definitely helped. I decided to join The Franklin Team brokered by eXp Realty because they have an amazing support program for new agents entering the real estate world. This gives a client working with a newer agent the confidence that they have an entire team of professionals in their corner.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Attending social events and client referrals are a great way to get your name out there. I love hosting open houses as well to meet potential clients. You can’t be afraid to put yourself out there, introduce yourself to everyone and do it all with confidence.
