We recently connected with Dameion Lorenzo and have shared our conversation below.
Dameion, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
The first time I realized I wanted to pursue a creative path in life I was about 6 years old. I grew up heavily influenced by pop culture. I loved music, memorizing lines from iconic movie scenes, fashion and making others laugh I’m pretty funny I think lol. It just so happened as I got older I got deeper and deeper into being an artist. I never wanted to be in the beauty industry but it found me!

Dameion, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into the beauty industry completely by accident! I knew that I was destined to be an artist because of my past. I always wanted to stand out and be different from everyone else. One thing you will learn about me is that I am truly an artist. I look at everything as a form of art. I even look at myself as a blank canvas that I can play around with because I get bored very easy and love switching things up.
In 2013 I started my journey in the beauty industry. I was pursuing modeling but wanted to transition into another creative path. I asked my friend to teach me how to do my makeup so I can do it for shoots but it became more than that. I began to love it so much that I then decided to make it a business. I started doing all my friends & family makeup to perfect my craft because I am a perfectionist and will not stop until it is right! Being this kind of person has helped me get to where I am today. From doing makeup I started seeing that my clients needed other services done so I began learning new things. I learned how to do Microblading & Microshading, then Eyelash Extensions, I then went to Cosmetology school to further my education and to receive my license to protect me doing these services, I also had to get my tattoo license for Microblading & Microshading as well. I even picked up Body Contouring because I love working out and learning about health & wellness so I felt it would fit right in.
The problems I solve in my business have a lot to do with one thing: CONVENIENCE! I’m all about helping others save time and money doing things they don’t know how to do. I allow my experience and training to help my clients shine in their daily lives. Anyone that comes to me KNOWS they are gonna leave more beautiful than when they came in. It’s the self esteem boost for me. It’s an addiction! When you look good, you feel good! I live by this.
I have come a long way. One thing I am very proud of myself for doing is NEVER GIVING UP! I learned early on in my career that you must repeat certain practices and habits in order to become successful. Success does not happen over night and you MUST put in the work to see your growth. I’m also originally from a small town in Florida where it is easy to get stuck in doing things you’re not passionate about so when I got away I never looked back! I’m proud of me for making a way even when it didn’t seem like I was gonna make it at all. Moving to Texas definitely changed my life.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
People who don’t work in a creative space tend to sometimes think that what we do can easily be done in 5 minutes. It doesn’t work like that! For instance if someone comes to see me to get their brows microbladed or shaded it’s not a service you do 1 time and that’s it! It is a service that requires 2 and sometimes more visits to get the best results. Patience is definitely required when you choose to work with an artist. We have to work in the best creative space possible. I also believe energy plays a big part in your results. If someone is not in a good mood that can affect the whole vibe of the service. So I would say Trust the process and Always be kind for being a creative is not easy. We are human also and want to give you exactly what you want but at the end of the day this is a collaboration that must be respected on both ends.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist to me is that I am able to help change the narrative for my clients. I have met so many people with medical conditions, mental issues, and self esteem issues that it is very important for my clients to leave feeling their absolute best about themselves. I am in a constant space of loving and healing others that my work has become a form of therapy even for my own self. If I can make them smile or make what they came in with better then my job is done!
If you don’t love what you do I encourage you to search deep within yourself to find that 1 thing that makes your heart smile and then do it repeatedly!
