Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Isabela O’Meara. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Isabela, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think what is takes to be successful is loving what you do and using your talents and abilities to give back to others. When you focus on making a difference in someone’s life as a priority, you become happy, fearless, passionate, driven and fulfilled in your heart.
Isabela, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Isabela O’Meara, I have been a successful licensed esthetician for over 15 year. I loved skincare from a young age due to having to deal with stubborn acne and suffering from it since the age of 12. Having to go through something so traumatic that I couldn’t hide from anyone made me very driven to understand the problem and have the compassion to help others in a similar situation. From many years of dealing with skin issues and spending so much money on things that actually did not work or made my skin problem worst, I created a simple approach to help every client achieve beautiful skin. It relies on eating healthy, hydrating your body, and using good home-care products recommended by a professional that knows your skincare needs. The products do not have to be something I sell, but having monthly facials is very important. Skincare does not need to be complicated: Clean, treat, nourish and protect. Ingredients are important, not what is front of the bottle but what is inside the bottle. Get informed and ask your esthetician about what ingredients works best for your skin.
To stay relevant I think it’s important to stay educated and up to date with the latest and greatest in the esthetic world. Any time I travel, especially internationally, I book a facial and connect with other fellow estheticians from all over the world. I attend trade shows and I take classes every year. I read and stay informed. As I grew my practice, I saw that there are so many other things besides acne that can be addressed. From aging gracefully, to brown spots or addressing minor issues, we all want to feel and look beautiful. Taking care of ourselves makes us feel good inside and out. You can’t go wrong when investing on your face.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Resilience comes from lack of choice and having to adapt in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy or threats . The last two years with Covid I would say were the most challenging times I have ever experienced in my career as a business owner. I could not work for a long period of time. The main nature of my business is touching people’s face and working remotely was not a choice. I thought many times about other passions, closing my business and doing something else. That was an opportunity to reinvent myself. I went through so many scenarios, but nothing in my heart spoke louder than the hopes of going back to my studio and living my purpose.
So, during Covid, I survived by taking online classes, learning facial massages using gua-sha stone, making skincare videos on social media, and staying in touch with clients and retailing skincare. I even sold “facials-in-a-box” so clients could do it at home.
Sure enough, here we are getting back to some normality and all that knowledge I acquired while at home now can be used and my clients are loving it.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I think the biggest lesson I had to unlearn is that I can’t control everything and I don’t have all the answers. I have always been driven and able to somewhat control my path of success, but Covid taught me that there are definitely things beyond my control. This has forced me to listen quickly and speak slowly with others.
