We recently connected with Jason Wyatt and have shared our conversation below.
Jason, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear from you about what you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry and why it matters.
Most believe that when you tell them that you are a trainer, facilitator, and Executive coach. They know what that means. They feel you perform the same services that they already offer and coach the way they do. But is it actually, not the same? Training or facilitating in corporations involves turning on a tv or computer and checking a box, but what I provide is one-on-one personalized training or Facilitating. I work to connect with each individual and find ways to support them through the process, so they each succeed. Executive Coaching is not what most corporate leaders perform. Their coaching is about them and their opinion, Coaching is always about the person being coached. It is a process to help bring out the best in the person being coached. Coaching helps build a team, and individuals to find their best and to succeed, The good news is that corporate America is starting to understand teh value of hiring an outside trainer, facilitator, and coach to help move past problems in communication, culture, or development.

Jason, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
After over 20 years in Corporate America, working in the chemical and food industry, I discovered that Leadership was something that was often lacking by those who were labeled the “boss”. I decided I need to improve my own leadership and business knowledge. I started reading and studying multiple leadership experts. I found I was getting better but wanted to do more, I researched and found The Maxwell Leadership Team. I became certified and received intensive access to the experts I have been studying. Then as I went back to my corporate role it became more prevalent that most of those in charge were not leaders but managers. I started to find myself spending hours in conversation about leadership concepts and less time discussing chemical processes or analyses. Then one day when the plant I was working at announced it would be closed, I realized I had teh opportunity to go out and start my own business working with other organizations to help them build their business and leadership. I started my own business, 1LEAD, as a way to help organizations not only thrive in the world but succeed. I use my years of experience and training to customize a way for them to succeed. I work with corporate and individual clients to help them learn how to improve and develop growth into the future and survive issues, like employee engagement, succession planning, business planning, time management, and future development of all in an organization. I am most proud when I see the client I am working with succeed, whether it is an individual who needs to find their motivation or an organization learning to create a work environment that employees want to be at. I often tell my client that there is no overnight fix. We are going to work through some hard concepts, even though they sound easy. It will require work on your part, but in the end, you will be a better person, organization, or team. It excites me when I get a client who has issues that they wish to solve, When we work the process together their success is my goal. An example I have I was working with a client, who was feeling drained and stuck by their current job and family. Through working with them we find the reason for teh family and work issues and were able to apply steps to resolve them. I can tell you today they are in a happy marriage to the same person, they love spending time with their kids and now grandkids. They even find joy in the work they are doing, as VP of Operations. Our work together helps them to learn more about themselves, how to better themselves, and ultimately find the “joy” they were seeking. Often time during our session we faced the hard fact of the problem or backslides, but they put in the work and was able to find the steps that were best for them. I have continued to work with them as they now find a path to retire from the job and still be fulfilled.

Any fun sales or marketing stories?
I was trying to get the word out about an event I host in October. I tried several of the standard systems to connect to potential attendees, but nothing was working. I asked several experts for advice and was told teh best was to use social medial. I tried that and then I thought about the mail system. I could send out flyers. And about a week after I sent out my first round of mailing I got my first 20 attendees. I thought outside the normal box and it worked, This showed me you need to try different things to find success. Not always will things work, but if you do not try, you definitely will not succeed.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The biggest lesson I learned was that you can’t build a business by “sitting at home”. Unless your business is online sales, you need to get out of your comfort zone and do something to make your business known. I never had to worry about this, since I was working in Corporate America and never had to be involved in that side of sales. It was a struggle, to find a path to potential clients. I needed to find places to meet clients and learn to connect. Slowing and deliberately you need to find a way to connect with and meet your clients.
